ParkControl helping sims 3 lag.

I was being nosy poking around the MTS3 forum and I came upon this while looking at a thread about a possible mod to combat lag. It's not a mod but a program.
https://bitsum.com/parkcontrol/
I downloaded and installed it and it seems to really help performance and I don't have the best pc at all. Does anyone have any knowledge about this program (or another like it) and why it might work? Is this a viable option or will this cause harm to my pc in the long run?

This is a viable option for those who find it helpful. The operating system will "park" CPU cores that it deems to not be needed temporarily. When the game runs, in many cases the system will keep parking and unparking the same cores repeatedly, which adds to the stress it has to endure rather than helping anything. Parking Control stops the incessant parking and unparking by keeping the cores unparked.

It has been said that Parking Control is not necessary on the current updated versions of Win 10 as Microsoft improved the mechanism so that the incessant parking and unparking doesn't happen so much anymore. That may not be true for everyone. It would still possibly or more likely be helpful on Win 7, 8.1, and earlier releases of 10. I found it to be not helpful myself and in fact it felt like it was stressing out my system when I tried it, but my setup was/is a Mac running Windows through Bootcamp so it's not as typical as that of others. Experiences will vary.

That makes a lot more sense in layman's terms, thanks. I just noticed many improvements immediately, my sims were more autonomous it seemed. My grocery store lot is much more active as well. I've gotten customers during the week whereas this never happened before. It has made gameplay much more enjoyable. I should clean up my CC folder too but it frightens me, all my mods have been working fairly well together and apparently, it's a delicate balance. I'm just looking for the best performance until I can get a good PC.

That might explain why Sims runs so much better on Linux for me than it did on Windows. Linux handles CPUs differently. Interesting.

You don't need to necessarily clean your CC folder, just merge packages together so you have less packages. That way you can have a better performance and all the stuff :)

I used Park Control on my last laptop, when I had Sims 3 running on Windows 7 installed on a 2012 MacBook Pro. It definitely helped me.

That is true as of the Fall Creators Update it is disabled by default, yes.

Indeed. The point of core parking is to idle as many cores as possible when the work load is lower to use less power and generate less heat. Unparking them keeps them always hot. Windows 10 is more intelligent about how it handles threading so this is fine there but on older systems I'd watch the core temps closely.

That said yes you will get a performance improvement out of this, particularly on lower end systems or those with low spec'd multi-cores considering Sims 3 can't use them all.
