White Overlay and longer load times

I was trying to limit FPS and have caused some problems.

Game takes longer to load and close and now when it does there is a white overlay left that is like the brightness being blown out. I had originally checked ‘disable full screen enhancements’. I undid it when that didn’t help.

I can can fix the white overlay by restarting, though I don’t want to restart every time after playing, but the load and close issue remain.

Does the seem seem familiar to anyone?

This conversation started out about fps capping, now resolved, and the OP's specs are provided over here:

White Overlay and longer load times

Something to note: I didn't have it in Compatibility Mode previously, however, if clicking and then undoing that one box did cause the issue would going into Compatibility Mode for Windows 8 smooth whatever happened, at least if that was the cause of the issue?

I am just really slightly confused that I undid any changes made and still something is wrong.

I have tried compatibility mode and I tried putting in older options. Neither did anything.

I even took out options and let the game run as new. From this I think the white overlay happens after I got into a lot. It might be one particular lot since I have used it to test because it was last save.

I will try another save and see if that gets rid of the white overly but so far nothing has fixed the loading/closing issues.

Can anyone help?

I apologize for updating this so much but I seem to have gotten rid of the white overlay.

It seems in making any change to the exe file for the game it also made it to the launcher exe so unchecking the change and a restart seems to have fixed that.

Load times change seem to be unrelated. Perhaps it was only my perceptions.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who checked in on this. Hopefully my stress, and what I have found, will maybe help someone in the future if they have a similar problem.

Glad you worked that out, I had a feeling it would turn out to be something like that. It certainly did sound like something related to compat mode was still in place.

For others following/reading this thread, Compatibility Mode is generally for relatively simpler applications and things like Office that do not load correctly in versions of Windows for which they were not designed or balk at the version number of Windows within which they find themselves trying to run. TS3 in particular usually does not respond well to it and it is not needed; it tends to create more problems than it solves. There was briefly, long ago, a use for it when Win 8 was released, but I believe a game patch fixed that and then the the game did not have the same issue with the subsequent Win 8.1 version release.

The best analogy I have found is, suppose you only have Coke in the house but your houseguest insists on Pepsi and will drink nothing else. So you put your Coke into an empty Pepsi can and serve it to them, it is identified by the guest as Pepsi, so they drink it. But it's still Coke. That's a pretty weak analogy and my fussier guests are always welcome to drink all of the water they want instead, but you get the idea.:)

I'm just glad I thought to check it, though it took me forever to think of that.

And then after all of that Origin went down and messed up my launcher getting rid of all my expansion and stuff packs. A restart sees that in order, at least it seems, but this weekend was not a great one for my game.

And now there is some weir line when I move my camera. I am guessing it is tied to capping the fps but my game has certainly been something this weekend.

Once again thank for your help.

If you are getting a screen tear (weird line) after having capped the fps, there are a couple of things you can try. If the tear is only showing up in full screen mode, try windowed and Windowed Borderless Gaming. Or, another approach, try capping the fps to some value slightly under the usual 60 (like 59 or 58, fractional values are okay too if Inspector accepts them); it's possible that your monitor is not really running a 60 Hz refresh rate as it is said to, but perhaps just slightly under that. Same applies for higher supposed refresh rates, so if a 144 Hz monitor, try 143 or 142, etc.

Okay I will work on that next weekend.

I think mine is 60 hz but if I am honest I do not know where to check?

On Windows System or directly on Display Settings (try right-clicking on the Desktop) > Advanced.

But unless you have gone out of your way to purchase a higher refresh rate monitor or are running the game on a television, it's probably a safe bet that it's meant to be running at 60 Hz.
