Plants in winter

I recently bought Seasons, so I am fairly new to it.
I understand why plants become dormant in winter when playing a cold climate, so in the cold worlds I play, I use planter boxes inside.
But at the moment I am playing a world with a Mediterranean climate, like we have in Western Australia. so the weather is never that cold - no freezing or snow. In real life here, spring, winter and autumn are the best times for growing vegetables. But even though it is autumn in my game, and the day time temperature is in the low 20s (Celsius), although the plants are labelled as ready for harvest, there are no vegetables on them, and my sims cannot garden.
Is there anything I can do about this? It seems really stupid to have to put in a greenhouse in this climate.

Not really. Dormant plants (AFAIK) are due more to the season progression than to temperatures. Also, slowing down game time with Relativity can exasperate this. You could try eliminating the entire winter season, but I'm not sure how much that will help.

One option is to eliminate both fall and winter, then use NRaas Tempest to arrange the weather patterns you want during the two remaining seasons. And, if also wanted, move the two seasonal holidays to spring and summer so you don't miss out on them. Spring, for example, could be set to have entirely different weather during its first half than its second while still well above freezing. But with no fall or winter and with temps warm enough (never going below freezing), there shouldn't be any outdoor plant dormancy or at least not much of it.

thanks Igazor, I will give that a try. I don't have the festivals anyway, so that won't be a problem.

Oh yeah, I could give or take on the festivals myself depending on the world being played and the last thing I need to see is sims ice skating or snowboarding when it's 80 deg F (27 C) out. And, this is just me, but I don't have much use for Spooky Day. But I would miss not having the gift giving holiday and its parties, though my sims don't really seem to care one way or the other, so I tend to plop that one down in the middle of summer in my warmer climate worlds as it would be in the southern hemisphere anyway. :)

My Dad always said that our 'white Christmas' was the white sand on the beach.

But now I am with littlelambsy on these.

I am following your ideas on getting rid of autumn and winter, but I believe that I need to go through a cycle of seasons before they disappear, so I will let you know how it goes.

Did I hear my name mentioned? LOL

If you don't mind cheating with these plants, you can use DE to put fruit/veg on plants. Click on the plant > NRaas > Debug Enabler > Name of the plant > Next Growth State. Hope that helps. Also, in England, we always had a greenhouse in the back garden, regardless of the weather or season. We use to grow all kinds of things in it. So having a greenhouse in summer is not strange to me :)

thanks guys. the problem seems to have sorted itself out. Even though I wasn't getting any vegetables in autumn, they appeared again in winter.

I will let you know whether or not I get autumn and winter next time around. And what happens with the plants.

littelambsy - my half sister lives in England and has a greenhouse, but you don't get very many in Perth. we can garden in the garden all year through.

Once again resurrecting a dead thread, but I've encountered a similar problem. I am playing in a world where I have set up custom weather patterns based on a real world area. The temperature never gets close to freezing, so there should be a year-round growth cycle. The low temp is 50°F yet my plants went dormant mid-Autumn. I don't really want to get rid of Autumn and Winter as there are definite seasonal weather patterns. Is plant dormancy based on temp or on season? If it is temp, how do I keep my plants from going dormant when it's in the 50s?
