Adoptions

Is there some way to tell if a kid is adopted or not? I did manage to find out with the couple in question, but still came here to ask. They were a couple I had not played in awhile. They had a baby and a child. I couldn't remember what their status was in this game, but I was fairly sure I'd helped produce the baby, so what I did in this instance was do the math and see that this YA couple couldn't have had the child by almost 44 days, plus the child was about to age up in 15 days, so I'd figured this was the case anyway. But it got me thinking, is there some other way to know if a sim's kid is blood or adopted? I'm thinking probably not, but IDK.

That's the stupidest thing I can offer, but try comparing the numerical values of their sliders in CAS. In the case of a large number of coincidences, you might think that this is their blood child. Also, all uncontrolled babies grow up in one day, unless you have fixed something in the settings.

Hmmmmm
I have babies set to age at 15 days and toddlers at 50. This seems to be the case for all my town's sims. I didn't set any other things as far as I know, but none of mine ever age up in one day, they age right along with my active sims kids. In fact I never noticed this happening back when my games were all vanilla either, but it has been a while so I could be mistaken.

If I understand your post, you don't know of any other way than what I already did to figure out this current child. So I'm going to assume there's no other way to know other than just paying more attention to town occurrences.
I like to control most of what happens in my towns. So,I am wondering, if you or anyone else could tell me, if I disable adoptions in my town will it still allow me to manually adopt via the phone or computer? I know some things get grayed out when we turn them off. I still want to have sims adopt, but I would rather I was in charge of those situations.

I was going to basically suggest what Sara_Darkees said. When I do adopt I notice the children don't look at all like their parents. I believe the breastfeeding mod only allows you to breastfeed your blood children and not adopted ones so there should be some way to distinguish between the two.

The entire notion of step/adopted children in TS3 is so weak that it's painful. In my experience the adopted offspring are treated and labeled exactly the same as birth children, the only real difference being what their genetics (sliders) end up looking like. The only times I see parents designated as stepparents is when a romantic partnership/marriage forms after the child already exists and was being raised by one of them and maybe (not sure about this) for science center clones of one parent.

Inactive babies do not age up all in one day under NRaas StoryProgression unless you have the age span set to 1 day. I'm not entirely surprised that they might do so under EA's story progression or with the game's own aging manager on but no story progression at all, but am not sure that always happens for all players.

What I think the breastfeeding mod might be checking is familial relationships so that would include adoptions. You can't breastfeed a neighbor's child or a great nephew/niece if they have parents of their own, for example. But I could stand to be corrected on that if I've got it wrong, I notice the mod comes with an optional add-on that allows for adoptive breastfeeding but again assume that means the child has birth parents elsewhere in the game to need that option.

If you disallow adoptions in SP, that will stop SP from pushing adoptions on inactive sims. That should not prevent player-directed ones. It will, as I recall, prevent them from adopting pets on their own.

The problem is that if JohnL set the maximum genetic mutation (okay, not the maximum, but high enough value for that) in the settings, then the method I offered is unlikely to help anything. Sometimes it's not enough to compare the color of the eyes, skin and hair, it's better to look at the sliders of the nose, cheeks and so on.

I think this option just excludes adoption as a generated event. For example, very useful to sim in the town to ban romance, especially if you have your own plans for him... In addition, you can always change the list of characters, with which will or will not occur certain events.

At the moment I'm not using any progression and they stubbornly ignore my settings related to growing up babies. I seem to have seen this string in gameplaydata, but I lost it. Controlled babies who are born in the presence of the player will grow up normally. This problem is as old as eternity...

Thank you everyone. I will just deal with it, it doesn't happen too often as I keep a pretty tight control over my sims actions. And I may yet just turn it off and take full control. I mainly allowed them because I was concerned with it being shut off for manual as well, but I also do like a bit of randomness in games.
I do get engrossed sometimes and Sim-time passes and I miss things...even a few aging up clothing fixes now and then. I check this often thanks to the horrible fashion choices of sims . There are a few lovely evening gowns that seem to show up in outer wear and it is as annoying as it is hilarious to see women building snowmen and igloos in their ballgowns with gloves. :-o There is one gown in particular that shows up the most often and it was one I got from TSR, but it's such a nice gown I don't want to just delete the thing! Not sure why these items are in the same category as winter-wear but whatever EA.

For the outerwear thing, it is possible to edit clothes to change their categories. I thought I had bookmarked a good, step-by-step tutorial about doing this, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Also, MC has a setting that disables category restrictions on clothing. It might be worth checking to make sure you haven't accidentally set MC to disable the restriction for outerwear.

It's nothing, I'm more struck by the fashion of pregnant sims. Sometimes they wear so high heels... I'd have been afraid to run in such shoes even without excess weight. And yes, perhaps it is possible to implement using MC or Dresser, but I prefer to edit the flags using the installer s3pw, but it is good only for a custom or store's content.

That would be handy. I think I read something about it a while back, but it seemed way to complicated and labor intensive and easier to just change clothes myself. But I may be thinking of something else. There is just so many things to change, fix, alter, address..etc. IDK what I've read, tried or have not...
