How do you get jet skis to work? I'm new to the whole IP water sport deal and just believe it or not only just discovered a few of the interactions and I was NOT in IP.
I hadn't really played IP since I bought it other than to do all the stuff I needed to make it not glitch so badly. Then I got distracted by all the Win 10 BS I had to work out....
Anyway, I'm NOT in IP and still, to my delight, found the windsurfing option while playing in Sunset Valley. That was really cool, I was also able to have my sim snorkel, but obviously can't see him underwater and I get that since there's nothing to snorkel in SV, but he did swim around with his snorkel on...I will have to try that in IP and see what it's all about.

But I digress, I can't seem to get my sim to use the jet ski. I bought a boat trailer, placed it on my lot, put a jet ski on it. Then oddly enough when I clicked it I figured it would say go to beach or whatever, but it did not. I clicked different areas and ended up getting an option to buy a jet ski. Okay, seemed weird, but I did and one ended up in my sim's personal inventory and one still on their lot in the boat trailer. Seemed silly, but okay, my sim had the jet ski. I clicked it and only got "make preferred boat" okay so I went to the beach and I tried all sorts of clicks and options and still no jet skiing. I only get th usual fishing, and then "windsurfing", "snorkel" and "boating". And BTW, they don't boat either. My sims just ended up in a taxi boat and I could not see them doing anything as if they were in a rabbit hole. So I tried to place a boat at the beach, but couldn't get any of them to place anywhere. What is the catch here? How do I boat and what exactly is supposed to happen and how do I get my sim to jet ski?

The boat trailer is just like a parking space. It just holds boats, jet ski, etc. I'm pretty sure the option to purchase a vehicle by clicking on the boat trailer or a parking space came with IP as I didn't have that option on parking spaces until I installed that EP. Purchases go directly to personal inventory. To use the boat trailer drag the boat or jet ski to the trailer just like you'd drag a car over to a parking space. The trick is that the cursor must be over a part of the boat trailer - if the cursor is in between the rails (and thus technically over the ground) dropping won't actually put the boat there.

A jet ski is not a recreational activity, it's a vehicle. Sims only use it to get from point A to point B when traveling requires going over water. With the jet ski (or any boat) set as the sim's preferred boat they should automatically use it when you click on a spot of water and choose 'boat here', assuming the point you clicked on is far enough away from shore. If everything goes right the jet ski should materialize in the water near the sim, the sim should materialize on the jet ski, and then the sim should travel to the destination you picked. The only time I've had sims use a boat taxi is when they didn't own something from the boat category. They'll use a preferred jet ski stored on a boat trailer in a basement before resorting to a boat taxi. That's just been my experience.

If you play any world with separate islands (like Isla Paradiso) sims will automatically use their preferred boat if they need to travel from one island to another.

I've had sims snorkel in Sims University waters before (and one of the Store worlds). They should learn the scuba diving skill and find shells and gems while snorkeling. I don't think it's any different in Isla Paradiso. Isla Paradiso has special dive lots for scuba diving though. You can't do that in open water, you need a special lot for that.

Ahhh okay, thank you. I thought that the jet ski was a recreational thing to do, like windsurfing. Ya know...like in RL? I never imagined it was just used to travel. There's no need in most of the towns I play, so I guess I'll save that for IP games. It's too bad, I love the windsurfing action, it would be cool to see them jet ski that way or water ski. The onlly problem with the windsurfing I have is that sims end up all over the place and rarely get back to the same beach. Like in SV, I had my family of 7 go and all of them were windsurfing including the kids, it looked great, but everyone ended up all over the map! LOL each one had a different way to get home and a couple were way off shore, further than I even knew was possible since I'd never had a sim swim that far out! I'm glad that they don't drown in the oceans.

As for the boating. I had an option for the sims to "boat here" so I figured it too was recreational, but the sims, not having their own boat, just sat in a boat taxi off shore. Weird.

I was confused for a second because I was so sure my Sims have been using the jet ski for fun in Twikki Island.
They have though^^: http://modthesims.info/d/530601/update- ... e-sun.html
This adds the boating around option and generally fixes a lot of the IP interactions.
