Human sims had a genie child!

I've been playing Appaloosa Plains and periodically check up on the population. That's when I noticed a bright red newborn sim on the list. The kid is the child of Calvin Riffin and Hiller Flint, both who are human afaik! The child definitely wasn't adopted since I saw Calvin walking around town as a floating head, haha.

I'm assuming this is a story progression thing, but I couldn't figure out what option it was. I'm not complaining, but with all the hours I play the game I don't think I've ever witnessed two non-occult sims giving birth to an occult. The only other occult in the town is a mermaid, and I made her. :)

Anyone know what settings in SP control random occult births? Is it the "chance of mutation" option?

Chance of Mutation shouldn't apply when both parents are human, as far as I know. What that does, if > 0, is provide a chance that an occult state inherited when there is one to inherit becomes a different occult state.

-- Are there no grandparents in town to have inherited it from (even if deceased)?
-- Are you certain that SP's progression is actually in control and not EA's?
NRaas > SP > General Options > Enable Progression > True

Calvin is a premade Sim in the town and he's the only one with dead relatives, so I'll check and see if one of his premade parents are genies somehow. SP is definitely in control and not EA. Maybe it's a weird fluke?

Oh jeez, I feel silly! The baby isn't a genie-- there's actually another genie in town and I mistook the baby for one. Premade dead sims in Appaloosa plains are all colored red, so the baby inherited the red genetics from the premade, dead grandparents that were colored red. Whoops!

Well then, you'll have to be sure that the parents dress the kid up as a genie when (s)he is older and tease them about the misunderstanding, especially when they have friends over so they can be extra embarrassing about it.

And for next time, if there is to be one, may I suggest some male maternity clothes? :)

Haha, right! ;) Poor baby sim, I think I'll take pity and make them an actual genie to explain the red color! It looks like they were in a tragic red food coloring accident, honestly.

Thanks for the link! I completely forgot about male maternity wear. Especially helpful considering I play on epic lifespan and my pregnancies last 9 sim weeks...

Glad you figured it out. My understanding though is with Supernatural in play, any baby born on full moon to human parents has a small chance of developing an occult state. I have a friend who plays and tries to time her babies to being born on a full moon to do just that. I'm not sure if it is just the states that come with Supernatural or any. I will have to ask her. I've never tested this myself as I usually have one or both parents with supernatural states.

There's a chance of occult mutation that should make humans have occults sometimes shouldn't it?

@yuk75 - Mutations operate on offspring who would already have inherited an occult state and potentially change it. The state of being human means there is no occult state. More random variations in occult states is an EA standard thing, not SP.

I did though forget about the full moon births. Isn't that a feature added in by a mod external to NRaas?

There is a script mod which will add random occult states to (presumably) human babies born on the full moon. It's available on MTS. That's the only way I know of to get random occult babies.
