What would cause a severe lag in this case?

Yesterday I started a brand new game save in Bridgeport, and it was playing very well. Then today, I started playing the same world, and right away there was quite a bit of a lag to it. I've already used Master Controller to reset the whole town, but it didn't really help much. Any ideas on what would cause a town to play smoothly one day, only the next day to have a ton of lag?

Oh yes, before I forget, I do have Story Progression and ageing both turned off. I always do this when I'm first setting up things, this gives my sims a chance to get themselves settled in their world before Story Progression gets all the single sims all hooked up with someone else first.

Did you get script errors? My immediate theory would be that since it was the second day of play for Bridgeport, it finally noticed all the celebrities and other side characters it spawned without Story Progression to tell it not to. The other possibility is that unmodded the elevators and subways can be bottlenecks in that world.
The two things that fixed lag for me were capping the frame rate and setting story progression to slow, but you probably already have that handled.

Yes the elevators are always an issue. Is there anything I can do to make this not so much?

Another source of stress on Bridgeport is that the map is flawed in several places and the game can get bogged down constantly trying to reroute sims. Are you using EllaCharmed's fixed version of the world? It doesn't fix all of the map flaws, there's one over on the suburban side across the bridge that still gets a couple of them sometimes, but it does take care of most of them.

But yes, between the over-abundance of elevators and sims constantly re-animating then getting stuck in the blacked out NPC areas of their apartment buildings unable to get out, routing in Bridgeport can be a mess. A MC Reset Everything should fix that, but only for the moment. Without SP running though, you might not be getting the "so and so decided not to go to work/school on time today" or whatever messages that provide a much earlier warning that the sims are getting stuck in these places than OW or the game itself provides.

Bridgeport is one of the cities that require frequent "Fix town items".

I love Bridgeport (live in a big city) and was upset that Starlight Shores (which should have been a Big City like NY or Chicago) was so boring! No dance clubs, etc.

Lmao Starlight Shores and Bridgeport have different themes (it's very much obvious to see from the town descriptions). Starlight Shores is more to career town since it has so many career venues, while Bridgeport is a city to have fun (with so many empty clubs). I love both of them. Starlight Shores has the Gooders and the Bests and they always argue and fight each other, it also has tons of beautiful gentlemen. Bridgeport has the Cooks and the Littlers and they're basically broken home families, like they hate each other within family members.

Bridgeport may slows down your game performance since it is huge, but at least to me, is much better than Isla Paradiso. As igazor has told, you may want to use Ellacharmed fix for Bridgeport since it has helped me a lot. Also you may want to shut down the celebrity system with Nraas SP as it only spawns unnecessary limos. Removing the bouncer ropes and limiting the homeless tending the bars are a great idea too xx :)

I think that the OP having stopped the spawning of 2,043 homeless sims that no one wanted or asked for (that sounds sad, doesn't it) and cleaning up the resulting mess will also go a long way to making the City be more playable. :)
