I want to force my sims to either walk or ride a bicycle. I thought I might be able to do that with Traffic, by setting "Allow Use of Cars During General Routing" to false. That did prevent use of taxis, but it also prevented them from riding bicycles, even when I explicitly clicked on a bike and told them to ride it somewhere.

Is there any way that I can prevent taxi use but allow bicycles?

As far as the game is concerned, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, and I think maybe witch's brooms are all the same class of vehicles as cars and taxis so disallowing is all or nothing across all of them. You could try distributing bicycles to all sims in the world and setting them as their preferred vehicle each, but that won't work for unplayable NPCs and there still wouldn't be any way to enforce things.

There may be a fancy way to do this by disallowing every other type of car model, but then there will still be service vehicles on the road. It's not going to be easy even if there is a way. Let's see if anyone else here has some better suggestions.

Right now, I am trying out a post-apocolyptic challenge, and only have 4 sims in the entire town (minus all the NPCs the game insists on creating even though there are no businesses or rabbit holes for them work at). Part of the rules is that my sims have to walk or ride a bicycle, and they have to replace a bicycle after 5 days of use (the extreme heat from the "event" melts the tires). Currently, they haven't earned enough money through nighttime scavaging for collectibles or fish to actually all buy a bicycle yet, but they do have one.

I don't specifically need to ban all vehicles, because I can just not give my sims any cars, but I do want to prevent them from taking a taxi if I tell them to go somewhere a long way away.

Initially, I had the Traffic setting so they wouldn't take a taxi and would walk, but discovered after buying the bike that they wouldn't ride that either. I have seen some discussions about modding the world itself to use one of the WA worlds, like China, where sims only ride bicycles or bikes/mopeds. I was just hopping there was a way through mods or tunings to do that.
