Ageless foreign sims setting

Post by WoolySmurf » September 3rd, 2019, 5:07 am

It's been a little while since last I started a brand new multi world save and I don't remember all the settings at hand. Usually I have backups for SP and Retuner, but not the others. As for ageless foreign sims, I always have that turned on since I play in rotation for the most part. However, I can't remember some of the details;
  1. As you can change the setting in Traveler in every homeworld, do you have to do so for each one? For example, if I start in Twinbrook and set every other world to true there, will I also have to do the same when I'm done with Twinbrook for the round and move on to Sunset Valley?
  2. Which sims are affected by this settings, exactly? Just residents, or service/homeless sims etc as well?
  3. The current world played is also listed when looking at the worlds available for the setting. Does it matter either way if that too is set to true while currently in it? For example, Twinbrook included even when changing it via city hall in Twinbrook itself?
  4. I don't remember how to handle university.. It's also in the list, and I could've sworn the other students didn't age while there by default? I rarely play it, but now I plan to have a bunch of sims get their degrees there for once, over an extended period of time, and don't want to mess things up. Especially not since I hope to add sim a couple of the NPC students to the households in the homeworld when they all get back.
You'd think I'd remember this stuff having used Traveler for years, but nope. :oops:

Ageless foreign sims setting

1 - Yes, or at least check on the values that the next world inherits from the first one. These values for Ageless Foreign should be checked every time a world is rotated into as a homeworld or becomes one through Change Hometown (if in vacation mode or attending Uni this doesn't matter) as you add new worlds to the mix. It's not an instant emergency if you don't check and adjust each world seconds after arrival unless you typically begin rotational homeworld play at 11:59 pm local time as foreign sims only age by one sim day each at midnight, not constantly throughout the sim day.

2 - I believe that would be all sims regardless of their official residency status.

3 - It makes no difference how Twinbrook is set for Ageless Foreign when Twinbrook is the actively played world. It might matter as to how these settings are exported/imported, but again they should always be checked within each world ongoing anyway.

4 - It depends on what you want the residents of Uni World to do. They won't age while a Uni term is in active progress, so if you want the same students to stay the same age forever then Ageless Foreign should always be on.

What I do is designate one household in one world to be my primary one, and sims in other worlds that I would never play as a homeworld (so for me that's the three WA worlds, Uni, and any other vacation-only worlds) will age only while that one household is being played. The worlds I do intend to play as homeworlds are always on Ageless Foreign. Thus everyone across all of the worlds should age more or less evenly. I'm not actually sure what I do or intend to do with Oasis Landing as its population is a bit more fluid than the others and after trying it a couple of times I'm not really feeling all that engaged with future world play.

Thank you so much for the help, igazor! I lurk a lot on the site and learn tons from others' posts, but English isn't my first language and sometimes I'm in need of a bit of extra clarification to be sure I got it right. I really appreciate this place, and learn something new every time I come here!.

I'm making a new attempt at playing all the EA worlds in rotation, including the WA ones. I've done so before, but never got through every single one as I discarded the last save for some reason I can't remember. This is probably my 3rd or 4th try, but a couple of times I haven't even really gotten out of Twinbrook as those sims are generations behind the others in the timeline. I need to stop trying to get everything perfect I think, and just deal with issues and move on, or I'll never get anywhere with this. Got a very bad case of startover-itis. :D

There are some of the uni premades I like but I'm not sure yet if I want all of them in the same home world and/or the same timeline so just having all the students ageless would mean there's no hurry to get them and they can stay there safely for however long needed. I don't mind the ones I don't care about staying the same too.

As for Oasis Landing, yeah, that one I'm not sure how to handle either. I've played there quite a lot in a challenge save, but never changed active household, which might make things a bit trickier, I suspect. I have descendants turned off just in case though, as that game feature annoy me anyway so no harm no foul.
