Switching between worlds without "real" traveling

Post by himawara » December 9th, 2018, 2:25 pm

Hi guys, great my thread moved to the new shiny nraas place! Thanks so much for keeping this community alive!

I have another traveler question:
I have a save file with six connected worlds. I switched to a different world from the first world without traveling a sim there. Now I'm in this second world and play different families. Can I take one family of this second world on a vacation in a third connected world?

It's been...a journey (the website I mean).  :)

The answer is yes. When you transitioned to the second world, you were not in vacation mode because you didn't travel any sims there so active play became that second world. From there you can vacation or move sims to other worlds just as you could have from where you started.

In fact, even if you were in vacation mode you could travel sims to a third world (a vacation within a vacation) as long as you have them retrace their steps backwards when finished and don't change active households to ensure that no one gets abandoned in a foreign world without a proper Change Hometown being run on them. That isn't what you are doing, so just mentioning it for future reference.

Switching between worlds without "real" traveling

Post by himawara » July 18th, 2019, 5:16 am

I revive my thread with another traveler question.

I have now 8 interconnected worlds in my save game and the game is lagging a lot. I thought so many worlds won't be an issue because the game only plays one world at a time. But this doesn't seem to be the case. Or why does it lag?

Is it therefore possible to isolate a played world from this save game? So I create a new folder with "Sunset Valley Save" and copy the Sunset Valley .nhd file from the save with all interconnected worlds in it to this new folder and play from this newly created save file.

Thanks for your help :)

You can do that by creating a new save first, then swap out the existing nhd file with a copy of the used one. You do not want to do this if sims in the new game have already traveled to/from the target world as that will confuse the TravelDB file and yield all kinds of unwanted results.

Connected worlds are not known to cause lag, only (very slightly) longer loadup and save times. I have 16 connected worlds in my long-running ongoing game. I'm thinking there must be some other reason for the lag you are experiencing.

Thanks for your help igazor! Ok, then I won't swap save files because the sims traveled already. I guess I have to figure out why I suddenly have so much lag in my game.

Hi there :)
Another traveler question: What if I want my sim to go to university (in the university world). Is this possible from any world in my save game?

Yes, if you travel sims to any foreign world within the same saved game then they will land in the same instance of that world (Uni in this case). Enrollment in Uni counts the same as vacation travel.

Oasis Landing is kind of an exception in that the population of that world changes depending on how descendants of the travelers are to be treated and which "version" of the future is to load, but that's more of a special case.

Thanks for your help!
To understand this correctly, instead of going to the university world I travel there? So when I have one sim in one of my worlds of the same save game I let them "travel" them to university like I would let them travel to China, France etc.? And then when I'm at Uni I enroll there? Do I have to change something in Traveler when I'm at the uni world?

Enrolling in Uni from any homeworld within the ongoing game generates the travel sequence to Uni World. It is not necessary to travel to Uni World independently of that unless you are bringing sims with you who will not be attending because it would not be possible for them to register (such as pets and children or younger). But if you wanted to, I believe you could travel to Uni the vacation way, then enroll at the Admin Bldg once arrived, and will end up in the same place.
