Travel files

Post by littlelambsy » March 17th, 2018, 9:41 pm

I'm moving a bunch of nhd files to my new game and notice some also have a ...ExportDB.package file. Do I need to move this file as well? What is its purpose? Never noticed this before.

According to a recent post by igazor on the official forums, those files are temporary storage used during travel transitions. I have them for all the worlds in the save that my sims have visited. I never move them to another save when I copy over .nhd files.

Ok thanks Trey, I haven't moved them before either, I just wondered how important they were. :)

One of the pieces of data we know that the ExportDB file holds is the Everyday outfit of sims who have been compressed so that even when they become "foreign" relative to wherever active play currently is, their portraits appear properly on family trees. In the realm of Things That are Super Important, that doesn't even rank high enough to get a score. For purposes of moving nhds into a game where your currently active world's sims have never even traveled to the destination before or met any of its sims let alone be related to any of them, this data would irrelevant.

Can't say this I've put this through any kind of rigorous scientific testing, but I've done the nhd copy procedure both ways and it doesn't seem to make any difference. We've always concluded whenever this subject comes up that we can just ignore that file.

That's good to know. In my new game folder, which is just about ready to launch into play, I've moved all the nhd files from my original game folder to my new saved game folder. That way my sim can visit those places and I won't have to go through all the world set up again. :)

Forgot to ask my other question. In my Original game folder my sim is living in Manihikki and I want this world (all set up) to be moved to my new game folder so I can move my new sim there. But, in the saved folder (original) this world is not showing up in nhd form. Will I have to move her to another world before that file will show up?
