Setting up a travel world for another sim family to live in

Post by bekkasan » July 25th, 2017, 2:09 pm

My current family lives in Midnight Hollow. I want to have a new family live in Dragon Valley that will eventually be joined with the one in Midnight Hollow. I had one of my main sims travel to Dragon Valley and rent a home uni style. I have family 2 in the library and was going to move them to a lot and build a home. Silly game won't let me do that. All the lots are not visible when trying to put the family in via edit town. I can add them to a tiny home or move them in with another family, but, am now concerned if I go to the trouble of building them a home I won't be able to move them in. The lots types are listed as Non-player sims only and can be changed to apartment lots or ownable lots and they are still not visible when I try to move family 2 in when I changed the type. How do y'all do this? I did go read the info on traveling faq, but, sorry, still couldn't figure out what I am doing wrong.

A starting out family can't move into just any house by way of Edit Town if its price exceeds the funds that the game gives them to start with. By default it isn't much. At least, I'm assuming this is what's blocking them. This is unlike immigrating sims who always seem to be able to afford the houses they get assigned.

If you don't care about having them start out with what the game thinks a newly placed household should have, I would place them on a tiny house or an essentially empty lot (or another household as you said) and then use MC to Add Sim them to the lot you really want them to own.

The game seems to think every family needs to be poor. In my story this is a well established fairy dynasty so they won't stay on the one br, one ba home for very long. :) So with MC I can add them despite the lot types being listed as non player sims only?

MC's Add Sim is very forceful, you can add sims to any lot, even commercial ones if you want them to live on a playground for example (with an option adjusted for that). It doesn't care about lot type, how much the property is worth, or whether the household/lot you are adding them to is the actively being played one or not.

I'm still having trouble setting up Dragon Valley as a world my MH family can vacation in and have extended family members live in. I added the lots I wanted and using MC put my main sim in the lot. Ended up with two of them in the world and I don't need a chance of corruption in game, so I left without saving and tried again this time adding a base camp to the world so he could purchase a vacation home. I changed his visa level to 3 (debug doesn't give a message that the change happens btw) and had to change the lots from npc only to ownable and he finally got the option to purchase a vacation home, but, the one lot that I had his house on was blacked out. He has plenty of simoleans as he is sinfully rich. His only option is to buy an empty lot and I don't want to do that. I did that just to see if it worked and it did, but, I don't plan to save that. I want him to have the home I renovated for this world and I want the other sims to have a home I renovated specifically for them. Is this not possible in this type of a vacation world? Basically I want to be able to have the families visit back and forth between the two worlds. I thought this was possible. I'm not looking for a uni style world where they rent for free on a vacation. The second family will actually not be travelling from MH, but is sitting in the library waiting to be added to the DV world via library. I will use the rotation castes to play them. The other question I have is can I import the settings I have from SP in MH to run in DV as it doesn't transfer from world to world.

This is puzzling, not sure yet what's going wrong there.

You have traveled your sim from MH to DV on a vacation and have them staying for free on some other random lot (not the one they will eventually own), correct? There is no need for a visa adjustment, Traveler grants sims Level 3 in non-WA worlds automatically. There is no need for a Base Camp. The changing of the desired lot to Player Ownable is a requirement and note that the designation doesn't always stick the first time -- do you see the lot tag change when you've done this? Sometimes we have to change the lot type to Commercial (let's say No Visitors Allowed) first, then to Residential - Player Ownable to get that to stay as it should and become purchasable.

And yes, you can export your SP settings from MH (if you haven't already) and import them into DV. You can actually do this with all of the mods' settings in one step if you use Overwatch to perform the export/import, but many get better results if SP (and maybe Retuner) is done separately.

I tried it with Victor living in one of the little cottages the first time. DId the base camp the second time. I'm gonna give it another shot, loading the save now. Thanks for answering.

Thanks, it worked this time. When I was putting the houses on the lots, they reverted back to the npc only designation and I was not noticing that as I had already changed it before adding the houses. Go figure. :) So, when I send Victor back to MH and decide I want to play the DV family I can do what it says on the faq by travelling without a sim? no tricks, no treats involved? Hope that will work for me. If I can mess it up....I will. :) I would like to connect a couple more, but, will see how this connection goes before I tempt fate again. :) Many thanks again for your help. :) The imports worked too.

I've always wondered this about Traveller - can I connect another world I'm currently playing be able to play the Sim in that world, also? I got "scared" of travelling after I had a Sim go invisible once after returning from a vacation in, like, 2010. 5 years later I discovered ErrorTrap and Overwatch, which brought him back! but I still haven't tried Traveller.
