There are two .legacy files, one for Sunset Valley and one for Riverview, and both are from 2009. What are .legacy files, and are they safe to delete?
Oh, and if one takes screenshots in the game, do the .jpg files add to the RAM usage, or are they handled separately by the game?
I got Error 12 earlier today so I've been cleaning my folders.

The .legacy files are old saves from the old saving format before patch 1.000something. If you ever loaded one up from the game selector menu or did so now and saved it, they would be converted to the current formats as .sims3 folders (and .backup folders), but the original file would stay behind as a .legacy file. In other words, you can pull them out and if you aren't missing any of your valuable saved games then they are fine to get rid of.
I don't believe that the action of taking screenshots in-game does anything to or for RAM usage. An overpopulated Screenshots folder seems like it might have an impact, but it can't be much since the game doesn't really do anything with those screenshots once they are taken. Regardless, many of us tend to store all but the most recent ones elsewhere, outside of the user game folder.

Thanks.
My game often gets stuck on the black screen and refuses to load, so I have to reboot and try and try again until it loads.
And the Launcher crashes everytime I try to look at what's installed.
Maybe I should start with a fresh The Sims 3 folder, and then add my sims and the CC as needed.
