Family Can't Travel

Post by Elynda » October 13th, 2019, 12:46 pm

I've a bit of a problem with one of my families, in that they can't travel. When I use the phone the Travel option is greyed out, and when I mouse over it I'm told "The adults in this household are already travelling", even though they are all at home. I think it stems from the family getting the "free vacation' opportunity earlier. Whilst they were away I briefly switched to another household and when I came back to that household they were all back home. I thought nothing of it at the time, but now that I want to send some of them on a trip to France they can't. It seems that the game thinks they're all still away on vacation. Can anyone think of a way out of this?

The Generations adult vacation scenario is horribly broken. It has always been our advice to never accept it or, if one must, at least have a safe save or two on hand from before the vacation is accepted to revert to in case it breaks gameplay. This happens often even if the active household is not switched out of and it happens to players with and without mods.

But first, perhaps try the older fashioned kind of reset. Revert to Edit Town, evict the entire household (if the game will let you) to the side of the screen, copy their uninhabited lot down to the bin, bulldoze, replace, and move everyone back in without having left the screen. Then see if the stuck scenario is still running by attempting travel.

That worked, thanks. And yes, I usually avoid the adult vacation thing whenever it comes up, but on this occasion I unthinkingly clicked on the tick - and there is no cancelling it. I'd have reverted to an earlier save, as you suggested, but I would have lost a lot of progress. I certainly shan't make the mistake of switching households again, but if as you said it can happen anyway I'll be doubly cautious in future. Again, thanks.
