Where do I find the initial installer so that I can download mods

Post by Bowlady1955 » September 28th, 2019, 1:56 pm

Hi Gang,

So, since I joined last October, wow it's been a year already, how time flies. I just got my computer back from the manufacturer (for the 3rd time in less then a year) and they totally wiped my computer. So now I don't have the link to install the initial mod installer and not sure where to look (yet again). Would someone please post it again so i can reinstall all the mods, pretty please.

I am now on my 3rd motherboard in a year, my 2nd CPU, my 2nd keyboard, my 2nd cooling system and my 2nd graphics card. So frustrating. My daughter just keeps shaking her head at my issues with computers, (I don't think computers like me), My daughter and her husband have the same set up I do and they have had their's for almost 4 years now without any issues at all, but not mom.

Anyway, like I asked would someone please be kind enough to post the link. I will bookmark it this time, I promise.

Thanks again for all you guys do.

Cheers,
Bowlady1955

Never mind, I finally found the link for the framework zipped file so I can set up my mod folder.

Glad you found the Framework link. But good grief, what kind of computer setup is this and what kind of graphics card? I mean, through routine usage not pushing things further than a system is designed to take, these things shouldn't happen. We can all get a lemon or a cooling system that fails now and then, I did have a Mac's RAM (and they're supposed to just work!) explode on me internally many years ago and it was loads of fun getting Apple themselves to do the repairs without costing me a fortune because I stupidly purchased from a well known third party re-seller to save a couple of hundred dollars on it, not realizing the impact that the cheaper RAM sticks they were using to configure it were not going to hold up for more than the 90 day warranty period plus I think it was three more days. I had to write firm but very unhappy customer letters to the re-seller's CEO, etc., not something I am very fond of doing, to finally get resolution.

Keyboards I understand are essentially disposable unless we are talking about a laptop. Dribble some water or coffee/tea on most of them and they do tend to short out very easily.

But anyway, what company is this? If the internals are going to keep failing at some point they should be cutting their losses and offering you a new computer or at least a very heavy discount on a better made system instead of repatedly repairing it.

Hey igazor, I ordered it from CyberPower last November, I'm just going to put it down in the order of my invoice, my daughter and son in law picked out all the components for it and just told me what to order. I don't know half of what any of it means.

Razer Cynosa Chroma Infinite Color Gaming Keyboard
Asus VS247H-P Wide LED Black LCD
CyberPowerPC Elite Pro MI 131 RGB Gaming Mouse
OEM Intel Core 15-9600K 3.70GHZ 6/6 9MB Cache LGA1151 95W
1TB WD Blue SSD 2.5" SATAIII 6.0 GB/s
2TB HDD 3.5" SATAIII 7200RPM 6.0 GB/s 64MB Cache
8GB DDR4-3200 Memory (QTY 2)
Corsair Hydro Series H60 120MM Liquid Cooling Bulk Pack
Case Fan 120MM
Intel 1150/2011/2066 Retention Ring (Corsair H60)
Syber M Black Mid Tower
Black LG 24X DVDRW
ASROCK Z390 Phantom Gaming 4-CB ATX W/RGB Crossfire Sata 6 USB 3.1 LGA 1151 M.2
Gigabyte GP-G750H 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular PFC Power Supply
Nvidia GEForce GTX 1050 TI 4GB GDDR5
Onboard 7.1 Sound

Like I said, I don't know half of what it all is but that's my set up and have had nothing but issues within the first 2 months that I got it

Cheers,
Bowlady1955

PS Like I said earlier my daughter and son in law both have the same set up on their computers and haven't had an issue, but I have always had a little black cloud following me around...joking.....just seems that way sometimes

Another Note: It was suppose to be able to handle my SIMS 3 Gaming and my World of Warcraft Gaming

Oh, it's a custom build and not an off the shelf model. But an extremely nice one (on paper) from the looks of it and CyberPower is like the most favored go to for these. I still think after so many what must be in-warranty repairs they should really cut their losses and provide you with a new computer.

One thing worth mentioning here though is that your Nvidia graphics card is powerful enough to throw wildly high frame rates that can ultimately cause hardware to burn out. TS3 being an older game has no functional built-in frame rate (fps) limiter. Accordingly, the Nvidia Control Panel needs to be used to arrange for vertical sync for TS3 and often enough Nvidia Inspector needs to be added to cap the frame rate explicitly to the refresh rate of your monitor, and the resulting fps rates should be checked in-game. Does any of this sound familiar and is it something you have now redone on the repaired computer?

LOL. you lost me after the first sentence of the 2nd paragraph. I have no idea about any of it, the only thing I did with the graphics card was update the drivers today, which is all I usually do to my computer is... update drivers, have no idea how to set any of them up. It's why I paid for a 3 year warranty coverage from CyberPower and have a Service Contract with Best Buy Geek Squad so they can take care of the tech stuff. All I do is play Sims 3 and World of Warcraft and pay all my bills online.

and YouTube and Google are my friends for learning how to do home repairs

Other then the above mentioned things, the rest is all greek to me. LOL

Where do I find the initial installer so that I can download mods

Let me try to explain why this is important. Monitors (screens, televisions, etc.) each have a native refresh rate measured in Hz. The vast majority are 60 Hz, there are some that can run a bit higher. To see what your current monitor is running at, right-click on your Desktop and select Display Settings, then Advanced Display Settings. There's only usually about six pieces of so-called "Advanced" information on that screen and Refresh Rate is one of them.

Graphics cards, no matter what kind, throw frames out for the monitor to interpret -- at least we hope so or there would be nothing to see. The rate at which frames are thrown is called the frame rate or fps (frames per second), same thing. If a program causes a graphics card to throw frames at a rate, meaning run at an fps, that is higher than refresh rate of your monitor above, then the excess becomes digital noise that your monitor cannot possible interpret. Your graphics card is capable of throwing frames at rates in the high hundreds at least.

Excessively high and very wildly fluctuating frame rates like that can lead to graphics glitches, screen tears, lag and other game performance issues, crashes, high pitched whining noises coming from the area of the graphics card, and can ultimately burn out the graphics card and the motherboard to which it is attached. More modern and updated games do not have this issue, even TS4 for all of the not so lovely things we have to say about it here does have a functional built-in fps limiter among its game options. TS3 does have a setting for refresh rate, but it doesn't do a thing for fps no matter how it's set.

Instead of our guessing though, the way to see what you are getting for actual fps rates in-game is ctrl+shift+C to bring up the cheats console, type fps on (enter). As you play and move the game camera around, including in Edit Town and Build/Buy, the displayed frame rate should never exceed the refresh rate of your monitor. So if that's 60 Hz, then 60 fps (or if it's 75 Hz, then 75 fps, etc.). We could live with 65 or 70 although there still could be screen tears if the goal is 60, but if you are seeing values like 400 or into the thousands, then stop playing (please!) until this is addressed. To make the rate display go away, cheats console again and type fps off (enter).

Thank you so much, I will do as you say, and I have bookmarked this conversation so I can go back and recheck it on occasion.

I checked my display settings like you said and it's set at 60. I have nothing downloaded in my game since I have spent all day reinstalling everything so I made a quick character and put him into a town and did the cheats console and typed fps on (enter), my question is where will it show up in the game? because I'm not seeing it.

Thanks so so much igazor, now if you can tell me where to watch for my frame rate to show up in the game, I should be set maybe?

Cheers,

Yes, that is what an Nvidia 1050Ti will tend to do with TS3 left untamed. The yet more powerful cards will run even higher and fluctuate even more wildly. So it's good that we have confirmed you have an fps issue with this setup (repaired or otherwise) and now we can address it. Not saying this is what burned out your graphics card prior, but it couldn't possibly have been helping.

Right-click on your desktop to launch the Nvidia Control Panel. If it doesn't show up that way, search for it using your taskbar's search function. In the Control Panel, create a profile for TS3.exe (for Patch 1.69/Origin) or TS3w.exe (with the "w" for Patch 1.67). You will have to use the Add button to create the profile and then navigate to where the Program Files executables are. Usually that goes something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts (or Origin Games\The Sims 3 \Game \Bin\TS3 or TS3w (make sure to use the right one for your patch level). Then for that new profile, set Vertical Sync to On or Adaptive (whichever one works) and Triple Buffering to On. And then startup the game and check your fps values again with the fps on cheat code.

Vertical Sync only works completely, when it does, in the game's full screen mode. If windowed mode is required or if it's just not locking things in, then we add Nvidia Inspector which is a separate download, and for The Sims 3 set the Frame Rate Limiter to 60 if that is your actual display's refresh rate, or as close to 60 as the program will allow.

(ignore any offers in the upper right corner of the screen if you have no ad blocker, the real downloads are 2/3 of the way down the page)

There are illustrations here for each tool that show the settings I am talking about, under the two spoilers in this EA forum post.
