Launcher won't stop trying to download

Post by ZeeGee » August 18th, 2019, 5:09 pm

Now that the store patches are no longer available, the launcher is continuously trying to download them but can't. It doesn't matter how long your launcher is open, when you close you get this message,

"The uploading process is running. Do you want to cancel this process and exit the application?"

I noticed this because I'm doing a complete reinstall of all my store content on my Sims 3 Steam edition laptop. Is there anyway to stop the launcher continuously trying to upload patches that no longer are there? Or is this a nonissue and not going to cause any problems at all?

Launcher won't stop trying to download

You are encountering a relatively new issue with the Launcher and Patch 1.67 that is not related to the store patches nor Steam installs exclusively. This started happening a year ago when EA changed something on their servers' end that did not take 1.67 into account and they refuse to (or can't) fix it, saying we should all be on 1.69 by now. According to that advice, no one should be running 1.67 disc installs, Steam players should switch to Origin (which admittedly we are able to do if we wanted to, but not doing so is the reason many of us are on Steam in the first place), and players on the Mac version of the game for which there is no 1.69 alternative can go pound sand. All three types of 1.67 installs are prone to this issue.

Note that it's complaining about an upload, not a download. We don't upload store patches, we should be downloading them, when they were actually offered.

It's okay to force-quit the Launcher when this happens, but I can see where that would be really annoying after a while especially if it's stuck doing this while we are trying to play, which it shouldn't be doing either.

The real solution is to deny Read and Write access (actually I think just denying Write access to all users including SYSTEM should suffice) to the file called Sims3Logs.xml in the TS3 user game folder in Documents. This is the file that the Launcher is getting stuck on "uploading" when it didn't need to. Some have advised doing the same for a file in the same directory called Sims3LauncherLogFile.log.

Alternatively on Steam one can not use the Launcher to avoid the entire issue and start the game by way of a Launcher bypass, but of course we have to invoke the Launcher sometimes and whenever we want/need to work with store or custom sims3pack content.

Launcher won't stop trying to download

ZeeGee - I use the bypass method and it works great. I've only had to use the launcher once or twice when I wanted a few items from TSR. It's a fairly simple procedure to set up a bypass link on your desktop or where ever you wish it to be.

For Steam installs the executable will be in [Steam directory]\steamapps\common\The Sims 3
Then just make a copy of the exe file there and put that where you wish and just click that to play your Sims game. Just remember, if you add an expansion (if you don't have them all already) you will have to make a new one.

If you need more of a tutorial on making a bypass link here is the link I was given a while back to help me: https://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/03/t ... ncher.html

Launcher won't stop trying to download

@igazor Thank you, I tried to deny just write and it didn't work, so I added deny read and it worked a charm. Thank you!

This is exactly why I bought Steam, to stay away from Origin at all costs, even giving up my ability to choose what packs I want in play. Thanks for helping us keep our 1.67 patch working.

Hi John, thank you. I do use the bypass method to play both my games, Steam on a laptop and disc on a desktop.

I like that this forum gives you a heads up about a new post before you post!
