StoryProgression + University Life ep

Post by defneaktrk » August 12th, 2019, 3:43 pm

I was using Story Progression in my family which I am playing the 6th generation of the family now. When I enrolled my sims to university everyone was elder and dead (there was like 20 people in university town). I tried to disable Story Progression but people are gone and elder so how can I fix it and bring people back and make them young :(

Sims aging or not in a foreign world when active play is elsewhere back in a homeworld is not a function of StoryProgression. It is controlled by Traveler. When in the homeworld, the one actively being played, on City Hall or an in-game computer NRaas > Traveler > Ageless Foreign Sims > (then designate True for the ones where you do not want foreign world sims' ages to increment by one sim day each night at midnight). If you play multiple homeworlds by way of Traveler, then this per world settings needs to be checked in each homeworld whenever it is in play.

Foreign, not being played worlds do not actually progress. Data changes like this are held pending in the TravelDB file, and then the world and its sims catches up to them the next time that world (or those sims if they come over for a visit) are simulated.

If you are not using Traveler, there is no control over this. Am not sure how EA standard handles foreign world aging, but it's probably the same as not having Ageless Foreign Sims engaged.

Once you get that squared away to how you want things to work going forward, is the goal then to revert the exact same 20 sims to their age from a generation ago (this would be tricky) or do you not really care about these particular sims and you want some fresh, younger faces to repopulate Uni World?

Firstly thank you for answering. I do not use traveler mod. I want University world to be in its default. How can I turn it to its default?

In your TS3 user game folder in Documents, you will find your saved games under Saves. Open up the one you are playing forward and you will see an nhd file in there for Sims University. Delete this file and the next time you travel to/register for Uni, a new one will spawn with all of EA's default sims just as you saw it the first time.

Note that if any of your older generation sims knew and were keeping in touch with Uni World sims, those sims will be gone and out of the game forever, the new ones who will look just like them but be younger will not keep those relationships. It would be best to make a spare copy of your saved game first in case this doesn't turn out the way you were hoping for so that you can revert gameplay if necessary.

From in-game, you can at any time do a Save As and rename the save to something else (or add "SpareCopy" at the end or something like that).

From within Windows or the macOS, a saved game is just a folder inside of Saves. While the game (or at least that save) is not running, duplicate or copy and paste it elsewhere to have an extra copy of it.

Will foreign world sims have their story progressed? Like, get married with other sims and have babies etc

Nothing at all happens in foreign worlds when they are not being played in. The game engine can only simulate one world at a time.

The Traveler option to age foreign world sims 1 sim day each at midnight or not holds that aging data pending in the TravelDB file and catches up with the target foreign sims the next time they are on-screen or in a world visited. But that's not progression of any form, they just get older and then one by one process any age-ups and deaths from old age if relevant.

Traveler also has an option to simulate a small amount of progression the next time a foreign world is visited, but it's nothing at all like having progression running the entire time while the world is in suspended animation. The option is, on City Hall of the world being played actively and traveled from (I think), NRaas > Traveler > Perform Travel Actions > (True/False). So when that one is True, you may find these sims have some limited amounts of career progression, for example. I think that would be a No on marriages and having babies, but if the foreign world hadn't been visited in such a long time that with Ageless Foreign on False everyone would have died from old age, the game will generate some descendants of the deceased sims for you so that your visiting sims aren't left visiting a totally unpopulated world.
