Recurring Script Errors

Post by Sonshine » June 30th, 2019, 9:40 pm

Hi, I'm currently having a recurring script error mostly on one sim right now. It was on three of them. I reset all three and now it's just the one who is the consignment store specialist. The store has been closed for hours, but he is stuck there. I tried deleting him w/move objects, but he came back. Unless there is something else, I might just kill him off. Does anybody have any suggestions? This is a brand new town also.

Edit to add: It seems to have cleared up for now I think. My sim is on the second day so we'll see.

Not good idea to try to delete sims that way that's sure quick way to breaking your Save.
Where they all on the same lot? The lot could just be bugged and replacing it might have fixed things faster.
Is it a custom or EA's lot?

I know it's not good to do that, but I was desperate at the time. The resetsim and reset town didn't work. I was clicking every couple of seconds. They were not on the same lot. I don't know what happened, but it seems to have corrected itself.

We might have been able to help with a safer (to your overall ongoing game's health) suggestion if we had been provided with the script error logs. It is not possible to know what causes errors and whether they are harmless, have a simple solution, or indicate something more serious going wrong without those, just knowing that they are on sims and keep repeating or are getting in the way of gameplay is not nearly enough information.

To repeat/summarize what has been said, Move Objects to move a sim of any kind to a new location on-screen should never be used unless one is setting up a screenshot/pose and has no intention of saving that session. Shift-clicking with testingcheatsenabled to object delete a sim of any kind, even a homeless NPC or a stray animal, should never be used period. What that does is delete the sim's body, but their data stays in the ongoing game and it can cause all kinds of problems and corruption further down the road when that sim is called upon to do something else. In that extreme circumstance, a MasterController Total Annihilation of the sim is always a better alternative, unless you really want a dead sim in the game in which case Force Kill would also be okay to use.

hi Igazor, I read your reply with interest, particularly the part about not using move objects on sims. I have been using it lately because when my sim wants to sell something at the consignment store, there always seems to be another sim just standing in the way. I have tried talking to them, but they don't move. can anyone think of an alternative to make them move?

Probably the same sims or related to those Uni roommates who spend hours standing right in front of the refrigerator taking selfies or doing other stupid stuff on their cellphones when my sims are hungry.

If there doesn't seem to be a clever way to get them to move out of the way using social interactions (like Call Over, asking them to dance, Play Tag (Childish trait required unless your sim is actually a child), let's go for a dip in the hot tub then walk away before they get in (okay, that one might be silly for a Consignment Store), then when I lose patience I would probably MC Reset them. At the very least that should safely send them home, or off the map if they are homeless.

lovely, thanks. I had tried insulting them, but that didn't work. I think resetting them would be best. I should have thought of that myself.

When I can't get a sim to move, I click on them and use Master Controller to tell them to go home. That always works for me.

Yep, that one works too and is less intrusive than a reset. That is, provided that the sim isn't so stubborn as to leave their home and occupy the exact same in the way spot on the lot a short while later. :)
