Blacklisting

Post by simalicious » June 21st, 2019, 8:31 am

I need someone to explain blacklisting to me as if I am a 5 year old that only understands basic computer functions. It is pitiful, yes, but every word on the blacklisting instructions page confuses me from the moment it starts explaining editing. I don't even know where to begin. I swear I am college educated, just woefully computer illiterate. I have the dresser mod, and the master controller mod. Please send help.

Blacklisting

Hello @simalicious!

Unfortunately the instructions that you see for blacklisting really are basic already. You'd need to gain basic understanding of the programming languages used in the instructions (HTML and XML precisely) and to have an editor for your custom blacklisting file (i.e: Notepad++ which is free and open source) since dabbling into the blacklisting feature of the Dresser mod is essentially modding The Sims 3 's code.

Sorry not to bring better news. Hope you still give it a try - Dresser is definitely worth it!

Can't you CTRL+Click on things while in CAS to blacklist some items or is that not the same thing? I think you can use the CASP to disable items from certain categories or being applied randomly if you reroll an outfit using dresser. Just to clarify blacklisting makes it so the outfit doesn't show up in CAS right?

Yes, but if you set Dresser to use the MC blacklist, it will consider those parts invalid when it rolls outfits as well.

I have never done it that way but it looks like the perfect solution to this thread! Thanks for your input @LBillusion, much appreciated.

does this just work on a PC, or will it work on a mac as well? I tried it, and it just put the outfit on the sim that was in CAS. Or maybe I am not doing it correctly.

I believe it's Control+right-click. It's been about a billion years on my end, but on the Mac version of the game it might be Command+right-click. One of those should work.

it is control + right click. thanks so much - it works a treat. I have been wanting to do this for so long. I was getting so fed up with sims wearing such inappropriate outfits. It is really good that you can blacklist an outfit for one thing, but still have it for another. e.g. I had a pair of CC speedos for men that kept on being used for everyday. not a good look.

The only thing that command in MC does though is remove the unwanted CAS parts from the catalog that the player selects from. It doesn't stop them from being picked up by sims when they roll outfits on their own. That's what all the discussion about the Dresser mod and blacklists are about.

Oh, what a shame. Well I have lived without it this long. ...

I am a bit like Simalicious - I have looked at blacklisting, but it seems to complicated for my senior's brain. Maybe one day when I have a lot of time I will try and work it out.

thanks
