Reinstalling mods and custom content

Post by TaterRei » June 15th, 2019, 10:25 am

So I'm going back to play Sims 3 after a year of hiatus and checking out other games as well.

Question, before uninstalling the game awhile back, I made a backup folder for my mods and custom content. If I'm going to reinstall them back, I already know how to test these mods if they work and basically check if they're all updated to the current version.

If I'm going to download the custom content via the launcher, will I have to go back to the source of the custom content to download them or are they just going to be placed back into the game if I place them into the 'Downloads' folder back?

Any feedback is welcome, thanks!

Just to clarify here, CC can be either sims3pack or package file based. Mods are always package files. For sims3pack CC, that which is Launcher installed, there should be no need to redownload the source files if you still have the originals unless something about the content has been updated since you acquired them.

Sims3packs placed into Downloads are not actually in your game yet, they still have to be Launcher installed. And in fact they can be removed from Downloads once installed so as to reduce Launcher clutter. If you still have your prior DCCache Folder, that's where such already installed content lives. The numbered dbc file bundles are CC, the ebc file are TS3 Store content. If you brought the contents of DCCache (not the tmp files if there were any) over to your new game folder, then you wouldn't have to reinstall any of it as they would already be in place. But possibly you wish to do the Launcher reinstalls now anyway because you are streamlining and being more selective about what gets put back into play.

The ebc files, the Store content assuming you have any, may or may not need to be reinstalled. It depends on whether this is the same "kind" of installation as the prior one, you are using the same player account that you were prior, and if you can also retrieve your former ccmerged.package file from DCBackup.

I see, thanks for the reply! I'll try to check if I may have saved my prior DCCache files into my old PC.
