Does anything in SP careers or some other Nraas mod control how often Sims who are firefighters are at the fire house? It seems that if you have a sim who has a job there they practically live there unless they are the active family! I don't mind this for Sims my Sims don't know, but it's a bit annoying to have friends and family who are not currently my actives, rush off to be at the fire house in the middle of a get-together or conversation when it's not even their shift! What's that all about anyway? In one of my games I have 7 fire fighters and often I see all 7 of them there throughout the whole Sim day and sometimes even at night! Also, if there's a fire during active play it's always some role or service Sim who comes to respond and not one of the Sims I have at the fire house doing the job!. (I can't remember if FF are considered role or service)

This has been bugging me, too :D Damn, do I wish firefighters and police officers that come when an emergency, would actually be those sims that are in those professions and not just some NPC you don't even care about... I mean, surely it would be nice to see those sims really doing their job even when not your active.

Yes. They are pushed there frequently to maintain the engine and equipment. This shouldn't be happening if it's not their work hours though. Do you perhaps have tuning mods that modify those hours?

This is normal. EA didn't tie those two together. The ones that respond are service Sims and have nothing to do with the ambitions job.

What's funny about those inactive resident firefighters is that they are emulating the notion that being a firefighter is much more than a job with set shifts. It's a way of life that requires constant attention and devotion, and these sims actually seem to enjoy being at the fire station during off hours. And yet when my active firefighter is out taking care of a disaster, when the clock strikes five (or whatever the end of the others' shifts are), they instantly stop running back and forth back at the station waving their maps around and screaming hysterically into their walkie-talkies, clock out, and go home.

Not that they were really being all that helpful managing the home base by waving maps and screaming while my sim was the only one putting his life in danger to save others, but it's the principle of the thing that got to me.

This career is one that I'm glad I played through once, but that was about enough. I still like the architect and stylist careers in moderate doses, but the firefighter one just seemed too contrived and artificial to me though I know others like it more. Its one redeeming quality besides getting your very own fire engine to drive around town in, the "I'm a Firefighter!" social interaction (and then everyone gasps and swoons in awe), can be so silly that it almost made it all worthwhile though. :)

I've seen this behavior from inactives in the Firefighter Profession as well it's the game doing this. I sometimes use the Firefighter and other active careers as "placeholders" when I use EA's SP.

Thanks everyone.

Chain_Reaction - I just have the basic SP extras, pretty much all of them except the supernatural related ones and the bully stuff. I do have my Sims set to maintain fire equipment autonomously, but I have no idea why so many are there even when it's not their shift, or why they leave my actives stranded talking to themselves to head into work when, according to MC Career it's not their shift.

Igazor - I agree. I rarely play the households with firefighters anymore. When I do I often ignore that character while they are at work or give them the day off so they can interact with the family. It got old real quick, but I'm glad I did play through it once or twice too. I also prefer the occasional design or stylist careers much more.
I'd never played too much with all the colors and patterns in clothing, but I discovered a few months ago how great some of the options can look with different clothing styles! You just can't imagine it from the sample pics! There are patterns and colors that I found look really great and are unrelated as far as category. Now I love playing Sim dress up. LOL Yep, my acquaintance at work was right...Sims are like live Barbies....okay...action figures. ;) Except you couldn't change the clothing on the Star Wars action figures...so I guess Barbie it is.

I disabled the "maintain fire equipment" in the NRaas settings in my game a long time ago, but the inactive firefighters are still pushed to the firehouse when it is not their scheduled time to work. Because of this, I no longer allow my played Sims to date firefighters. It's too difficult to carry on a relationship with them.

Yep! This is my main issue too. Most of my FF sims have no real great relationships with their families. But it does seem that once in a while their spouses and/or love interests will visit them there and woohoo in the showers. LOL (I combined the boy/girl bathrooms and gave them private showers and toilet stalls instead...this gives them more access since so many work out and get stinky too) I've lowered most of my games down to just two or so NA Sims in the career. But I do find it a noble profession so I can't bring myself to leaving them out completely, plus it's odd to have the firehouse empty. I just leave it to sims I don't play, or those I play rarely. :)

EA never intended for inactive sims to be in the professions so it confuses the game on what to do with them. I've seen Stylists and Lifeguards do around the same thing, except the Stylist just keeps going back and forth from home and the Salon when it is their shift they never stay at the Salon long.
