Advancing in self-employed careers or professions once inactive

Post by deedee_828 » June 7th, 2019, 6:34 pm

I currently have a couple in my active household where one is a self-employed writer and his GF is in the architectural design profession. They will be moving out soon and I wondered if there is a way for them to keep advancing in their respective jobs?
Though I'm not sure how my architect will fair as there have been no jobs available for her for several days now.
I don't see her ever completing her LTW of 100 Great reviews (which is just insane) but it would be nice if she went to some of the neighborhood homes and at least pretended to work!
And having my writer continue writing books would be great too.

Is there a mod that would make this possible?

If you allow StoryProgression to control career progression on this couple while they are inactive, they will both be covered on paper...that is, they should progress through their careers by way of formulas and reported stories. If you have the SP Skill module, there is a setting under General that should push the writer to write actual books provided they have access to a computer/laptop. The Ambitions interactive professions are trickier, there is no way I know of to get a sim to actually perform architect/design jobs while inactive -- same with many of the others like the firefighter won't be rescuing sims from earthquakes (there wouldn't be any such disasters simulated when they are not active) and a stylist probably won't be getting sims to come to their home for makeovers if that is where they work out of. These professions are really designed for player interaction.

They'll never complete the LTW's with those careers and the Architect in particular is a lost cause in all my years I've only seen 3 sims ever get past level 2 and only 1 of those sims got past level 4 they need to have access to a drafting table but unfortunately skill won't take them far.
The Ghost Hunter seems to do the best I've had several sims get to levels 8, 9 and 10.
Firefighter and Private Investigator also do well since they have a work place and can advance mostly on skill alone.
The Stylist needs to have access to a drafting table and painting easel and there should be a Styling Salon in town for them to advance, depending on the sim they may get to level 5 or 6.

Thanks Igazor and sittingbear! I figured the Architect was a no go since it's such a hands on career, but since my sim in that profession is a couch potato, I don't see her being all that productive on her own anyway, just not in her character! She's already reached level 10 in the profession and so far has 2, yes 2---great reviews. It's a pretty insane goal to reach and I've never done it even with an active sim, just too time consuming and boring after awhile.

I will check out the SP skill module as I'd like my writer to continue writing books now and again. Is it something you have to keep prompting the sims to do or does the setting just push them along like other inactives careers? Oh, and I thought I saw a topic here about naming the books popping up. Will this happen just for him or for all other writers in town, if there are any?

With the SP Skill module and its push for sims to write switched on under General > Options: Skills, then it becomes up to the Sim (Caste, Household, Town) Options as to whether the skill pushes apply to them or not. The documentation says these pushes are trait-related, so I take that to mean one with traits that favor writing will get pushed harder and one with traits that are more...couch potatoish might not.

I believe that the prompt for the player to title books inactives are writing, when it's working as it should, is supposed to be all or nothing.

Of course neither of these options apply to the sims we are actively playing at any given time.

I went in to grab the SP skill module since I don't have that one and realized all the modules are for v267. How do I know what version of SP I have? I checked my mods folder but can't actually find a version but the modified date is 2016! And some of my NRaas mods are dated 2015. Do I need to update all of them along with any corresponding modules? I update my drivers frequently but never thought about updating my mods! I guess I need to add Absent-Minded to my list of traits. Or maybe Technophobe though it's not that I hate technology just that I'm not very good with it!

One way would be to replace all of your NRaas mods with freshly downloaded versions, but that's probably not necessary.

For an arguably more efficient approach, run NRaas > Overwatch > Version and you will get a report of all of your NRaas mods with version numbers that can be compared to the base mod list on the right side panel of this site when viewed in full-sized browser windows. For the add-on modules, for those mods that have them, you will need to dig a little deeper by going to the add-on module download page to see which versions are current.

Or if it helps you could look at the release history in chronological order on this page. The SP base mod v267 was fully released in April 2015. Since then we had an interim release of SP Career (only) as v268 and v269 of the base mod and several modules are still in beta testing with descriptions available on the Wayback Machine (sorry Chain, but I can't get the beta testing descriptions to appear for me on this site as all I get is a spinning wheel animation).

Thank you. I'll give that a shot. Got caught up in another portrait panel error that I believe was a result of an IF doll in inventory not being outside of the inventory to age up. Once I saved and quit, went back in and took the IF doll out, let her grow up, gave her IF potion and moved her out and then grabbed the non-aging up IF doll and put it back in the right Sims's inventory, saved and quit again, and reloaded for a 2nd time, then everything went back to normal! As much as I loved the IF dolls prior to all my testing, I am now realizing why so many players avoid them. Too glitchy!
And now one of my inactive families has a toddler with an IF doll! I hope that doesn't mean something bad. I don't remember ever seeing an inactive toddler with an IF before. But his dad has IF genetics so maybe he got one from his side of the family!

Yes, apologies. Release notes and translations are still an issue due to the last minute load balance to the pages system. Because of how the page system fetches pages, each version of release notes needs to be parsed and injected into a cache that is just about at it's limits due the mass amount of pages we have. I am experimenting with some changes though and hope to have them here as soon as possible. :)
