Tourists Not Visiting

Post by Paisley17 » May 30th, 2019, 9:09 pm

**** Adding a Correction to this post -- I forgot I had used 2 different Sims. Each one traveled to a different World ( I wanted to keep their Tourist list separated). First Sim has retained the relationship with the Sims from the Foreign CC World. The second Sim no longer has them on their friend's list.

I wanted to link a couple of CC Worlds to my Homeworld and I thought I followed all the steps to allow them to visit, however, I'm still having some issues. I originally traveled to both worlds to edit them without sending a Sim. After I completed my editing of each World I sent a Sim from my Homeworld for a visit. They met a few Sims, wandered around for a few and returned home. Once my Sim arrived home the relationship panel no longer shows a relationship between my Homeworld Sim and the Foreign Sim.

Not sure if the Tourists will actually visit my Homeworld, probably too early to know for sure. I tried these steps out a few days ago, but the only Sims that arrived at my basecamp was some unknown random Sims from France, not a premade (hope that made sense).

Settings I have are as follows:
Hidden Worlds - All Worlds with the exception of the linked Worlds and the Homeworld. Worlds I want hidden are set to True
Disabled Traveler Worlds - Homeworld and the 2 linked worlds are set to False
Tourists - Allow Tourists
Leaving time - 50
Number of Tourists - 4

Did I miss a Setting?
Time frame it takes for the 1st Tourist to visit my Homeworld?
Allowable Traveler Setting -- what is a Recovering Sim?

Not sure if I'm making a mess out of my game.

If your sims have returned home from a trip and have no foreign sims they have met and befriended in their relationship panel over on the shaded foreign side, this might be a sign that your worlds are not really connected. This can happen when either the homeworld or the foreign one (or both) are custom worlds that have not been id'ed uniquely in their design stage and are thus not really compatible with Traveler. Which worlds are you working with here?

Beyond that, I'm afraid you are mixing Traveler commands with that of Register. Traveler doesn't govern tourism, its purview is the travel experiences of actively played sims and it establishes the connections between the worlds you are playing when things are working correctly. The Hidden Worlds command is from Traveler and only governs what you see on world lists, not tourism. A recovering sim is one who has traveled recently and since returned home. Under EA standard there is a (three sim day, I think) cooling off period before that sim is allowed to travel again, this option removes that restriction. But that doesn't affect tourism either.

To see if you are actually getting any tourists in your world that are hiding/going into hibernation on you rather than appearing on screen, use MasterController. On City Hall or an in-game computer, NRaas > MC > Demographics > Population > "X" to dismiss the filter, and the number of current Tourists should show up as a category on the resulting report. Or do something harmless like on City Hall, MC > Sim > Basic > Family Tree > (filter to Type of Sim > Tourist) and see who shows up on the list, if anyone.

Register will call for tourists pretty quickly if allowed to do so, and if the worlds allowed to supply them are what the game recognizes as actually connected.

Thank you Igazor for helping me out again!

Not sure how or why but the missing tourists in my Sims friends panel is now listing them so that problem is solved.

The two vacation worlds are Great Bear and Wild Wild West and my homeworld is Salmon Woods. I checked the demographics for population and it's showing zero tourists.

I thought I understood the different settings for Traveler and Register, but when no one was showing up from the other worlds I thought maybe I was mixing up the True and False settings and needed to change the settings for both Mods.

You mentioned it might just be the Worlds are not playing nicely with the Traveler Mod. If that's the case do you have a link to a thread that mentions compatible worlds and/or do you have any suggestions?

I would run a test on a game off to the side to check on Traveler mod compatibility. Make some obvious change (add a building perhaps) to your homeworld. Vacation a sim to a destination and, while there (not in Edit Town pre-travel) make another such change, meet a few sims to chat, then return home.

Does the change you made back home still appear and do the sims you met stay in the foreign section of the relationship panel? If you travel a sim from that homeworld back to the destination a second time, does the change you made there persist and does your sim still know the sims they met last time?

If you keep getting fresh new instances of either the homeworld or (more likely when this happens) the destination one with the obvious changes being made not persisting, then one world, the other, or both are not Traveler mod compatible. To narrow things down, it may be best to start with an EA world as a homeworld as with what is now the current version of Traveler we know that they all work correctly.

There is no comprehensive list of custom made worlds noting their Traveler mod compatibility that I know of, and I'm afraid nothing can be done for worlds found to be incompatible as the unique ID issue occurs very early in such a world's design phase. Some of these worlds reportedly remain great fun to play, but in games as single worlds only with only the WA, Uni, and Oasis Landing worlds being used as potential travel destinations and with no moving to foreign worlds while keeping the original one in play as we can otherwise with the mod.

Tourists Not Visiting

I actually still have The Sims 3 file I was using to test out the worlds I wanted to add to my main file. I ran several tests with Traveler to see if everything was working correctly, except for checking to see if Tourists showed up. I'll go back in later today and see what happens, my guess I'll have the same results.

I really like the worlds I wanted to try out, but I'm not interested in playing them without having a vacation world linked. If the testing shows the same results I'll just stick with a world I have used previously, probably a lot easier anyway.

So if this does not work out where tourists show up in my town with these worlds and I decide to abandon them could I save the Sims that are currently living there and add them to another world or will that confuse the game? Prior to doing anything, I was planning on removing any Sims from those worlds showing up in my homeworld Sims friends list. Is this a good idea?
