Usually when that thing once happens gave up that save because no matter I do, like things that are on the internet didn’t really help. I just regret on not using the save cleaner sooner, use the save cleaner and go back to the last save. This time, I was playing one of my big worlds and this one came up while saving the game. I knew that there’s no way i can save, so instead i decided to do some housekeeping works on my collection files before quitting the game. After about 10 minutes of this, for some reason, I wanted to try it out again. It worked!!!!
Now, I’m not sure if that save file is safe enough but it was a memorable sim moment!!:)

Can anyone tell why it worked? i literally did nothing gameplay wise. I just went straight into buy mode after that save error and saved again after collection folder works.

Well, things that were not quite usual were:

I had testingcheats on before that first save.
I had to turn on buydebug on while working on the collection folders because some of the cc items were only accessible in the buydebug mode. But I turned off the buydebug mode before the next save try.

This is difficult/impossible to predict, but if the game session had been on the very edge of resource (especially RAM) usage and the save attempt itself was all that was throwing things into overload, sometimes we can recover from that on the next try. Not related to Build/Buy Mode, but when I used to attempt this I would focus in on a boring patch of grass and then perhaps zoom out to Map View before attempting another save. I would typically only be successful around 5% of the time, others have had different results with an existing Error 12 condition. I don't get these very often anymore and usually don't bother attempting a second save once it does happen.

You don’t get that very often anymore? Is there any tip for that??

Just the usual performance preserving tips that we always recommend here.
TIPS-FOR-BETTER-GAME-PERFORMANCE

That and being very much in tune with my game (this is difficult to describe/quantify), always watching RAM usage, and just knowing when things "feel" overloaded, I've spent too much time in CAS or Edit Town doing very intrusive things, or have attempted a travel transition into or out of a very overpopulated word without temporarily dialing back the graphics settings on game options or having saved (as) and reloaded first and very soon after arrival. The last Error 12 I got was months ago and it was totally my own fault, far too many Edit Town lots added and moved around in rapid succession and I knew I was asking for trouble, but didn't lose all that much since I had been saving most of the way through that session.

Gotcha. I have gone through that recommendation and been pretty good at being conscious on those things but it sometimes happens with my big worlds when I play too long for a one session.

Just curious, so that save file after the error 12 is still safe to play? (Not the .bad file that was created with the error 12)

If the save completes, it should be okay. But that's in an otherwise perfect world of course, sometimes saves are bad even when they seemed to complete correctly. Guess I would say there is a slightly higher likelihood of something going wrong with a save that was completed after an Error 12 condition was overcome, but it's not necessarily going to be a corrupt save.

I guess I can confirm this now. It happened again and solved with the same way.
I got the error 12 message so I turned on testingcheats and buydebug on. Then turn off buydebug and testingcheats off. Then I saved as.
This time, I didn’t even do any work on my collection files. I just turn those cheats on and off and saved right after.

Don’t know why but it worked again!!!

Of course Im gonna use save cleaner and clean that save file for future use.

I've been suffering from these because of the large world I've been playing in. I have to separate my game into play and build sessions to compensate, but it's better than losing an hour of gameplay. I have saver set to one hour and I try to stick to ~2-hour play sessions. If I get another one I will try these tips.

if you play in the ea worlds like bridgeport or island paradise, you will probably have this error mesage when saving. i recommend to you play in the custom worlds.And if your computer is 32 bit, i suggest you to pass the 64 bit windows system( of course you have enough ram for it, how to i know because this was the one of oldest my sims problems so i know that)

Error 12 has nothing to do with playing an EA world. Error 12 is an out of memory error meaning the game has exceeded 3.5 gig RAM limit which happens from playing too long or the Save has gotten large you can also get that error in custom worlds especially if the world was made too big like Alpine Country. None of the EA worlds were made too large they just got other problems.
Having a 64 bit OS helps but it's not going to stop it monitoring the games RAM usage and saving before the game reaches the Error 12 zone will.
