Retuner Options to Set when sim goes sleep

Post by JJoli » April 8th, 2019, 1:52 pm

hello,

I am very happy to see that this community I would say is really active.

I've been trying to figure out how to alter autonomous interactions for sims to go to sleep. So I found nraas retuner and if anyone knows
settings, tunables which can be adjusted when sim goes to sleep autonomously. I mean it can be by hours, or when they receive Tired moodlet so they go immediately to sleep. Because I have been having issues for them slacking outside when they return to home exausted, stay near mailbox till they pass out.

It would really ease my gameplay.

Thank you in advance.

Retuner Options to Set when sim goes sleep

There are just over 350 settings in the FullEATuning file that include the term "sleep". Looking through those search results, I didn't really spot any settings that look like they'll accomplish what you're trying to do. With that many results, I didn't read each one closely, so I might have missed something.

There might be settings in the XML files that Retuner can't reach which will do what you want. However, I think it will be easier to figure out why your Sims are coming home from work exhausted and make changes to remedy that than it will be to tune the sleep / tiredness / energy system.

On that front, one problem I've run into is that if my Sims have beds which are too high quality, they wake up very early, because they're fully rested earlier. There's a way to make them sleep later, but I'm not sure how well I can describe it. When the sleep action is in their action queue, there are some lines on the right of the box around the icon. If you drag those lines to the right, it will make the Sims sleep until an hour before the carpool arrives for work.

These are your actively played sims? It sounds more like Free Will/Autonomy is not working well, though that shouldn't be game-breaking, rather than other things necessarily.

We can advise ways to manage energy depletion throughout the day, but at the risk of solving the wrong problem. What we don't yet know is if these sims are coming home from work at "typical" hours exhausted (too early) or if they are coming home at 5 am after dancing all night at the club, or at any hour after an intensive 12-hour workout, etc., and thus it's expected for them to be that tired.

Retuner Options to Set when sim goes sleep

Thank you for your replies.

@ Tropical Insomniac I see that on interaction which appears when I tell Sims to go to sleep there are some bars on that interaction, but that does not seem to be adjustible.

@igazor - yes, seems freewill is little bit messed up. What I am trying to do is that my sims have their motives always at highest rank possible before going to job. I am maintaining around 30 sims household. So sometimes to put them all to beds after work is lil bit time consuming. They are usually exausted when getting back from work. And other issue is that, that when they are back from work, they are standing near Mailbox, which is like a spot programmed to go there after they are back to work. And that nothing attracts them inside the home. So they just lurk there. Sometimes they are going to sleep themselves, but very rarely. So I want to force them atleast to go sleep after they are right back from work. Like you said this is not game braking, but it would really help me when I want to advance one sim, so I would not need to take care of others cuz they would do everything autonomously.

Maybe there is a way to add Custom interaction like Go Here mod does, but instead Go Sleep? This will ease the routine when you need to find everyones bed and click on it to make sim go sleep.

I've changed one parameter. General -> by object -> bed -> sleeping (default 100) -> 600. Seems they started to go to sleep themselves, but in random beds, not the ones that is assigned to them. This needs more testing or an advice on exactly variable.

Thank you in advance.

Ah. I think you may be solving the wrong problem after all. It would not be expected for Free Will to function in that environment. When there is stress on the game, it's one of the things to break at least temporarily or at many times. There isn't likely to be much that is more stressful to the game than an active household of 30 sims (unless you put them in a route-broken world as well). Although it's of course possible to play that way with mods, the game is not really designed to be under that much pressure.

But just a bit prior, you said that your sim standing in the default "just got home" spot has bars on their Sleep command? You mean a graphic that appears next to Sleep on the menu command? If that's what you meant I guess it could be trait related, does your sim have the Night Owl trait or something about them that would make them want to stay up all the time, like are they a vampire? Or is there a mod from another source in play that might be interfering here?

Yes it is stressful. And like you say it would be common for a game to do not do these interactions on its own. It is fine. Just like I said to ease this, maybe there is a function how make the sim go sleep at custom circumstances?

Regarding the behavior when they got home -they just stand in just got home spot and rarely does something to move in. Once they are in the house, they do interact with each other normally. I got few vampires and there is only 1 sim out of 30 that has night owl trait. That is not the issue here.

I got alot of mods - mostly of them are Nraas.

Since you mentioned your Sims are mostly going to work fully rested, it doesn't sound like you're experiencing what I thought might be happening, where a Sim wakes up 4 or 5 hours before the carpool arrives, so they go to work without a full energy bar.

However, I do want to try to clarify what I am talking about with the bars. Even if it doesn't help you with these Sims, it might help some other time. If none of this makes sense, feel free to ignore it. I'm still not sure I'm explaining it very well.

The box in theacition queue for a sleeping Sim can either be a square or a wide rectangle. When it's a square, if you drag those bars on the right to the right, it'll become a rectangle. When it's a rectangle, if you drag those bars to the left, it becomes a square.

Doing that will toggle between two sleep modes. If you hover on the box one mode will say something like "Sleep until fully rested (7:30)". The other will say "Sleep (8:00)". The exact times will vary, and sometimes the "sleep until fully rested time" and the plain "sleep" time will be the same.

(A Sim taking a bubble bath has a similar toggle, between "bathe until tranquil" and "bathe until clean". Reading skill books has one too. Fishing has a three-way toggle between fishing indefinitely, fishing until 5 fish are caught, and fishing until the fishing skill improves.)

They just do not go to sleep on their own, they stay up till they pass out, even after waking out after being passed out, they still do their things or stand idle.

Your method to drag the action to right side and make them "sleep until fully rested" actually is a good thing, I am using this right now, did not know about it - thank you. I just wonder if it is possible to always have this option when you set Sim to bed, cuz sometimes they are using that shorter sleep option, I sometimes set them to go to sleep when they have around 30% energy left.

So the whole idea of this topic is. if there is a way to make sims go sleep on their own at certain moodlet or energy level. Or maybe there is a way or mod to have interaction like "go to sleep" or "go to bed" instead of looking for their bed and set them manually to sleep.

Are you using Relativity? There are settings that can be changed so that sims' energy (and other) levels deplete at a more realistic rate. Obviously this won't make everyone go to bed automatically, but it could prevent the need for them to go to bed as soon as they come home from work.

That's where I thought this thread was going to go originally, but my brain is still stuck on the active household having 30 sims. If Free Will/Autonomy are not kicking in to shove this sim to bed when they get home from work, giving them more energy to work with, as they indeed should have, will possibly only delay the issue until bedtime.
