Can I change this setting in retuner?

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Is it possible with retuner to change the chance a sim will get set on fire while inventing at the inventing station?

I looked in several areas of Retuner for you.  There are options in Objects for the invention workstation for autonomous, etc. but I can not find anything else for a sim setting on fire in that section.

Are you looking to change the chance so a sim will catch fire or are you looking to prevent catching fire?  If the latter, see if setting Autonomous as False in the Objects section I mentioned above.  It might provide allow for more control on your part as you would need to direct them to the work station.

There are a lot of layers in Retuner so perhaps someone will come along with more assistance.  My guess is there is an alarm setting for that but I could not find it.

Can I change this setting in retuner?

I found what seem to be the required settings in the XML settings reachable by Retuner by using the game's ITUN file, but like so many other things it's not a simple percent chance change. There are arrays of data involving "tickets" (whatever that means) that lead to explosions or electrocutions on the inventing table. Can't recommend what to do with these arrays of data as none of it looks all that clear to me as to how the chance calculations are being done.

Yes. You need to go to Town Hall -> Retuner ... XMLs .. Then I think it is Skills Inventing or something like this. It's called InventionBench if I remember correctly. The chance to catch fire is part of the ticket System. Basically it is a table where you set values for successfull inventing, catching fire and failing. If you choose the numbers so that they add up to a hundred, then the numbers will be percentages.
When I am ingame I will look up the correct path, but maybe this will already help you find it

Funny how Kitty and I found the same things but walked away with somewhat different assessments.  :)

Well that is because I have changed those settings successfully I guess^^ And since I made my inventing overhaul Mod and inventing takes much longer it seemed usefull to me to reduce the time Sims catch on fire, because inventing is already pretty hard for my Sims =p (Also thanks to relativity, because all my Skills are set to 0.01 speed^^)

The way it is calculated it is exactly as it says: "tickets". Imaging tickets getting thrown into a bowl with the different outcomes on them.<br />If it is 100 tickets total and 5 of those are for catching fire, then there is a 5% chance of catching fire.<br />If it is 50 tickets total and 5of those are for catching fire, then the chance of catching fire is 10%.

I have followed the tips to this retuner page below. So if I change all the values to 0, sims wont be able to be caught on fire again, is that correct?

I was just getting so annoyed that when inactives tinker with the station and get set on fire, the "firefighter" that the game spawns is so totally useless, that I can just as well post on the forum here and expect you guys to come over in my game and take care of the fire. The chanses of you guys appearing in my game and the "firefighter" puting out the flames on the sim are both 0 xD.

Even putting the shower next to it doesnt help, as I suspect the useless firefighter queues himself into the sims to-do tab, and is preventing of helping himself :/

Town Hall -> Nraas -> Retuner -> Settings -> General -> by Tunable XML -> Sims3.Gameplay.Objects.HobbiesSkills.Inventing -> InventionWorkbench -> kInventNumTicketsFire

Also the other kInventNumTicket stats also influence the chance because the percentage is calculated by dividing the fireticket number of a level by the total number of tickets on that level. The 0 to 10 numbers in the table are for the skill level the Sims are at in inventing. So you can set the chance of someone catching fire for each skill level.

Yes, set all of those to 0. I have the outdoorshower right next to the inventing workbench and it works fine. But I also never have a firefighter spawning. Curious. Well if you set it to 0, the Sims simply won't catch fire anymore^^ Have fun playing :)
