AwesomeMod keeps catching an exception error. Can NRAAS fix it?

Post by kittykatmeow10 » October 23rd, 2018, 10:16 am

Hello,

I keep having an issue with one of my worlds where the ingame clock will freeze. I know most of the time it is due to an alarm-firing issue, but the clock always freezes at completely random times (which shows in this case that is not a specific alarm-firing issue), and it unfreezes itself if I save and quit or if I save and return to the main menu. (It should be noted that the work/school hours still function as normal, despite the clock being frozen, and the day/night cycle still occurs. I don't get any notifications about the carpool coming soon or anything though, I pretty much have to rely on the Occupations tab to tell me when they have to leave. )

If I return to the main menu, however, AwesomeMod (which I use alongside NRAAS mods) displays this error message:

FLAGRANT SYSTEM ERROR!
Sims3.SimIFace.ResetException: Exception of type Sims3.SimIFace.ResetException was thrown.

First of all, what does this error message mean, and why does it keep happening?
Secondly, is there a way any NRAAS mods or a combination of multiple mods can fix whatever issue this is without me having to return to the main menu (or save and quit)?
Performing a Reset Everything with MasterController appears to make the game hang for ridiculously long periods of time if I try to do this when the game clock is frozen. My game hasn't crashed, but I have waited at least 30-60 min on the "Processing..." screen while MasterController attempts a Reset Everything, and I don't have that kind of patience. (Normally it only takes 5-10min in this world for MasterController to Reset Everything) I suppose I could let it do its thing overnight, but then again I don't want my computer to be making loud fan noises while I'm trying to sleep.

I would have posted this on MATY, but I don't even have an account over on MATY and I find that the attitude of the moderators here is much more pleasant. Also, I feel like there SHOULD be a way to fix this with NRAAS, but I just don't know what it is.

According to the creator of AM these errors indicate "harmless resets" (see here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/i ... ic=18136.0) and can be ignored. I don't use AM so maybe someone else can offer more help?

Hmm, okay.  I figured the error didn't mean anything THAT significant (I take error messages with a grain of salt with ErrorTrap installed, lol), but its good to have confirmation that there isn't something seriously wrong with my world.

The main thing I wanna know is why do I only see this message after the clock freezes and I return to the main menu? It almost implies that whatever error that is causing the clock to freeze is being caught by Awesome... unless Awesome catching an unrelated exception is causing the clock to freeze. I really don't know.
Must I close the game or go back to the main menu to fix my clock issue?  Is it the only way? I started up my world again about 10 minutes ago and I ran into the clock freezing issue after only playing for 1 or 2 ingame hours. -_- Like I said I can still play with a non-functional clock, but it's really annoying cause I don't get any notifications concerning when Sim's work/school hours are coming up, and phone calls for parties starting/being missed continue indefinitely until they're answered.

I feel like there should be SOME way to fix this with an NRAAS mod, without performing the aforementioned Reset Everything with MasterController (as it appears to be causing my game to hang). Any experts know?

If Awesome is the one causing all the issues, and no NRAAS mod can do anything about it, I suppose I could try removing Awesome as a test. However, I have one or two sims in my town with the "Stupid" trait, which to my knowledge comes bundled with the AwesomeMod (not to mention I don't know if game-generated sims can roll the trait or not, but if they can that means that there may be more problematic sims). I don't know what kind of behavior the game will exhibit if I attempt to load a world containing sims with traits that no longer exist. Plus, I'm not sure if my error is replicatable in a new world.

While it's nice to hear that you find things more pleasant over here, I'm afraid to say that the support we can offer for AwesomeMod is limited at best. It's a very complex core mod and it is not our product.

I do know from experience that you cannot just remove AM from an ongoing game that has "seen" it and expect to be able to play it forward. There is a removal procedure, a cheats console command, that I believe must be run first or your game will end up with broken Trait and Dream Managers among other things and likely be or become unplayable with its sims totally damaged.

I've got awesomemod installed with the autmaoted school assignment being the only major thing I enabled in the config file and 114 Nraas Mod files installed in my game folder which is why I can work with the combination though you might have issues from enabling things in the config file that shouldn't have been enabled if you also want to use the NRaas Mod collection because a few things in there can conflict with the NRaas Mods as I found out in a test folder.I'd advise getting a new config file with just the autmated school assignment override enabled to replace you other config file with and test that out as it would be the closest to fully removing awesome that you can come without risking serious issues and the errors might stop after changes to the config settings are made.

Oh, I didn't even realize that 1. AwesomeMod had a automated school assignment config option and 2. Said setting would mess with NRAAS. Guess I gotta get myself a new config file (I probably needed to get a new one anyhow...)!

Generally speaking you should not be returning to the main menu. This causes data to duplicate in your save file or leak into others should you load them. You should always exit the game. I don't think the exception being thrown is a sign of an incompatability but rather what I said above - things aren't properly flushing from the memory.

Why your clock is freezing I'm not sure but that it's not sometimes caused by alarms - it always is. The alarm system is what runs the clock. When an alarm bounces it, it dies. You should start by eliminating any script mods you have besides ours and see if the problem persists. There's no known compatibility issue with our mods and awesome that would cause that.

There is a long standing EA bugs in the firefighter career that cause it as well as the dreams and promises system... especially if you have complex family trees or dream catcher enabled while switching to many different households.

Alright, I'll try running my game with most of my scripting mods removed. I wasn't aware that the timer freezing at random times was also alarm-related, so thanks for letting me know that.
I also wasn't aware of the Return to Main Menu thing. I only did that because it seems like my world loads faster if I return to the main menu and then try to load the world again.

AwesomeMod keeps catching an exception error. Can NRAAS fix it?

So, a bit of an update. What I have noticed after trying and failing to find the source of my random clock freezing is that said clock freezing ONLY occurs on my home world. I have been having my sims go on vacation after I made this post and there are no timer freezes whatsoever when I am playing vacation worlds. This only perplexes me further, as I don't know what sort of misfiring timer would only be occuring in my homeworld and not in my vacation world.
Do you think it's something wrong with my neighborhood/world? Should I try using Mover to transfer my sims to a new world?

Difficult to say unless Chain has any further suggestions on troubleshooting the existing homeworld. But just FYI, the mod that allows moves to a new world while keeping relationships with and sims in the prior one intact is Traveler. The purview of Mover is in-world moves.
