Faulty sims3pack CC

Post by Kayleena » June 25th, 2017, 4:47 pm

Yesterday I installed a community lot because I was too lazy to build it myself (though I've spent hours adjusting it after placing it), and I decided I would also install some CAS items: hair, makeup and clothing.

Today I decide to put a few NPCs in Stylist and make them look more pleasing since they have a lack of fashion tastes and some of the clothing is bugged. When I edit NPCs I try to stick with fullbody outfits to save time, so this is where I'm noticing my bugged CC. For some items all I see are the feet. And while I was clicking through trying to decide on an outfit some instead of being their premade textures and colors would show my sim's skin instead, which was a little horrific, I might add. If I'd click to another outfit I would see weird shading, and her makeup would change, or disappear but not actually be removed. I was going to just accept the clothing I put her in and then reset her, but the game crashed, instead.

My question is how do I locate and uninstall those specific files? I'm 95% sure these items were from Anubis360, as that's all I installed as far as clothing went.

In the meantime, I'm doing to attempt to edit this sim again because I'm stubborn.

What you are describing before, up through, and including the crash can also be the game session having run out of usable video memory or other such resources. That's not to say "Bad CC" isn't the trigger, but it isn't necessarily. Does this happen consistently when trying the same outfits although not others or was this a one time (one game session) thing?

It seems to be the same outfits. I had this issue a long while before, as well, which caused me to be more careful when installing my packs after starting a vanilla game. I would scroll through them in the launcher and also remove files that I never used or no longer had an interest in.

You are most likely right about not having enough video memory. The game was fine and hardly ever crashed before I installed a batch of packs a couple of weeks ago. After installing those I've run into a ton of error 12s, and I stubbornly installed these items because I missed the Anubis clothing. The error 12s are very strong now, lol.

But back to the clothes, it is always the same ones. They're in the same location each time I load up CAS.

And, I've been meaning to ask but always keep forgetting - since you mentioned not having enough video memory would you mind recommending a video card that can handle large custom worlds with a heavy amount of CC and large populations? I plan on upgrading my RAM as well, as I've only got 8 gigs. buuut, I'm a micromanager so I'm paying attention to everyone in my game and making sims look presentable after they age up, and the same with NPCs.

I just reread your comment and the texture/shading issue is random. It happened on some store content clothes, as well as what came with the base game and expansions. But the 'invisible' clothes are the same ones.

Then I'm sorry, now I'm not sure I understand the original question as to how to locate and uninstall. Sims3pack content isn't installed in individual files, it's read from Downloads and installed into bundles in the DC Cache folder. The Launcher can only display a fixed number of items on it's Already Installed tab, so if the items aren't showing up there for removal you would have to use the Launcher to examine each dbc bundle individually to find what you seek to remove. The ebc bundles would be EA Store content. Any .tmp files are expendable.

Note that if a downloaded sim included the questionable or unwanted content, then the installed sim would also have to be removed or the content is just going to come right back.

See the Method by Mell on this page: http://sims3.crinrict.com/en/2011/01/tu ... ntent.html

Package based files are of course different and uninstalled by merely removing them from the Mods\Packages and clearing the cache files.

On the computer, how about if we start with what you have now. Can we get a set of specs on this computer (make/model number, processor, current graphics card)? The first 40 lines or so of your current DeviceConfig.log in your user game folder in Documents might also help, you can stop when it gets to the long lists of game options.

Ah, so it's a complex process then. I'll have to attempt to uninstall them over the next weekend. Since I just installed them last night I don't have any sims that I'm aware of using any of them, but that's not to say an NPC won't be spawned with them - hopefully that doesn't happen. Package files are much easier, yes. But the original question is uninstalling individual files so I can get rid of the clothing items that are showing up with only the feet.

As for the computer:

Your computer specs are fine for TS3. Unless the video card is wearing out from old age, it is also fine. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that its drivers are up to date, that you get these drivers from ASUS (that's the manufacturer, right?), not from Nvidia, and deactivate (uninstall) GeForce Experience if you happen to be using it.

Well, one further thing. Have you limited the card's frame rate to the refresh rate of your monitor (usually 60 Hz, so that's 60 fps) and checked in-game lately with the fps on cheat code to make sure that it's being capped properly?

Anubis360 was a great creator before she was retired. I'm not really a fan of launcher and I only use it to install store worlds and lots. For third party CCs, I prefer them as packages since it's much easier to uninstall if I end up not using them anymore. But before installing CCs, you should check first with Sims 3 Custard whether they're good or bad CCs. Also if you happen to have a crash to desktop again, I would suggest you try TS3CLA (available at MTS), it's not 100% accurate thou but it helps me a lot.

igazor ; Yes, ASUS is the manufacturer. I'll see if the drivers need an update this evening or Thursday evening. But since installing that batch of CAS items the whole game lags consistently. I am playing in a custom world, Eavensdale County, I believe (not at home so can't currently look). When I pan in on houses that are furnished with a lot of items they take a while to load. They'll either not show up at all, or be grey while the game loads the textures. The video card is probably at least four years old. It was installed when my ex and I were together. Is four years old for a video card? It's just that the more I add to the game, the more it lags. It seems that the computer can't handle it, so I thought upgrading some things would help. I've noticed that saving takes three times as long, now, too.

johannshah ; Did you know that Anubis360 was actually a guy? I had no idea until he posted a picture of himself on Tumblr. I used to install mostly package files until I learned that they create more strain on the game than sims3packs. It's why after starting a vanilla game I switched to mostly sims3pack downloads. I'll look at those two programs when I have a chance. Thanks for suggesting them!

Oh really? I've known him first at MTS and since he used a female sim as his avatar, I thought he was a chick. I had no idea, I've been installing third party CCs as packages for a long time and I've got no issues so far even if my PC isn't built for modern, heavy games. Yes some CCs must be installed as sims3packs like cabinets, patterns, etc. But for hair, clothings, electronics, tables, chairs, beds, etc I've got no problem installing them as packages. Well, the only issue I got was a freaking long loading time into CAS, build/buy mode, and when loading the save file. That's why I keep CCs as much as I use them and only use launcher for EA/Maxis store worlds and lots.
