Assigning random degree and additional traits

Post by Natt » September 26th, 2019, 2:16 pm

Hello,
I have noticed that if any sim in my unactive families do not have any degree (sometimes even babies, children and teens!), then SP automatically assign them some random degree. As a result of "graduation", they also get an additional random personality trait. After deleting degree and trait, and then switching families, it all happens again. They also get a random trait if they reach lvl 8 in a social group.
I would really like to know how to prevent this? I just don't want to my unactive sims in town to have random degrees and traits...

Okay, sounds like my suspicions were correct then but I wasn't entirely sure at first.

The main point of SP is to provide general guidelines for sim behavior and to push inactive sims in town to progress through various SP Managers that control friendships, flirts, romance, baby making, genetics, skill building, careers, school performance, household moves to better suited residential lots, immigration and emigration of sims into and out of your world, etc.

When Enable Progression is False, that means NRaas SP is not in control of story progression at all. A small number of its settings will still apply to provide guidelines for sim behavior generally, but without progression enabled SP is not pushing anything or really causing anything to happen among the inactive sims in your world. In this case, if the checkbox for story progression is on in Game Options, then EA's story progression is still in control. If the checkbox is off, then there is no story progression (the checkbox has no impact if SP's progression is enabled). Either way, random EA programmed things will happen and they won't always make logical sense to us which is why so many of us seek out alternatives to its form of progression.

From the game developer's viewpoint, they probably wanted to simulate the notion of inactives having gone through Uni on their own without the player having to send them there individually. Under EA standard, sims who are not actively controlled more or less exist for the convenience and amusement of our one actively played household, they will come and go from our worlds, and we really aren't supposed to care about them very much. Under NRaas SP, things happen in what we would call a more logical manner. So in this example, inactive sims will not have Uni degrees unless the player sends them through Uni or grants them degrees by way of MasterController (or DebugEnabler).

Does that help answer the question and clarify the role of SP in general?

Assigning random degree and additional traits

Hi there. That's not something I recall seeing before with SP. Are you certain that SP is actually in control of progression and not the EA version? At first glance it sounds like the random distribution of degrees is something EA's version of story progression might try to do.

On City Hall or an in-game computer, NRaas > SP > General Options > Enable Progression > this is set to True?

If it really is SP doing this with the degrees, I would ask our developer to explain where this is coming from. Are some of the degrees perhaps inheritable and dependent on a hidden trait that the player should be looking for and removing with MC?

I understand the empty trait slots being populated, that we can control with SP, but the first question is why are these sims graduating and reaching level 8 on the social groups all on their own in order to get the one or two extra trait slots enabled without the player pushing them through Uni World or other activities to do these things.

NRaas > SP > General Options > Enable Progression is set to False. I was not aware of this. Does that mean that this all assigning random degrees and traits is done by EA story progression? Will setting this option to True help in this situation or I would have to do something else?

I had no idea that this could be caused by EA's story progression. Now I understand :) Thank you so much for your comprehensive reply and professional help! Have a nice day :) !
