StoryProgression + Game Glitching

Post by simmys » August 2nd, 2019, 7:48 pm

I've had StoryProgression for a while now and everything works fine, today was just a regular play session, I didn't do anything different but for some reason it glitched.

Basically my teenage sims were at school, and the adults were at home and one of them was out at a cafe. I got over 100 notifications saying "storyprogression script error".

After that my teenage sims and everyone else in school randomly got out of school and just stood in the front, my adult sims disappeared (I couldn't see them), and other things started glitching. I went on my other sim, who I also couldn't see, and clicked on another sim who was there that was visible. It just said "NRaas", no "Friendly Introduction" or anything. A few seconds later, one of my sims appeared and I could see her. I had her "Go Here" to see if she would walk, but then she disappeared again. I'm not sure what to do so I just quit the game (didn't save and quit), but when I quit it it's just at a black screen for a long time. After over 10 minutes and it was still at the black screen with a loading wheel when I scrolled over it, so I just used task manager to close it.

I'm not 100% sure this has to do with StoryProgression, but it happened right after I got StoryProgression script error notifications and my game usually doesn't glitch like this. I may have done something wrong but I just played like I normally do and didn't change any settings or delete any files or anything like that.

Also I'm new on this site so I have no idea how to attach images.. so I just put them on Imgur, I hope it's okay. I underlined in my post everything that I have a screenshot for. :)

StoryProgression + Game Glitching

Hi there. Afraid all we can see from the on-screen notification is that SP's Career Manager is very unhappy about something but we can't really tell what. Couple of things in order to proceed here.

1 - This is just a hunch, but are you also using a very adult mod with initials KW by developer Oniki Kay?

2 - If not, or if you have no idea what I am talking about, then we move on. When a script mod like SP throws errors, it puts them in their entirety into script logs stored temporarily in the TS3 user game folder in Documents. The names of the files begin with "ScriptError" then your computer name and a time/date stamp, etc. If you could, please zip them all together (am assuming there will be a few given how many errors are being thrown at the same time), upload them to a file storage host, and provide a link so we can read them. Alternatively you could drag and drop some of them one at a time into a reply on this message thread without zipping them up, but that method doesn't always work for everyone.

Hopefully that will give us more information as to what's happening there.

You did fine, thanks, and yikes that is indeed quite a meltdown you have going there. The bad news is that your ongoing game is not playable (you already know this, of course) as it seems most to all of your sims in town have broken Dream Managers. This mechanism is required to push sims to do things they may "want" to do, when it breaks down like that the game just won't function. I wouldn't blame SP for this specifically, seems like it and the Careers mod are more victims of whatever the true cause is. The good news is that you don't seem to have a million different things being reported on, it's all the same one or two errors repeatedly.

You don't seem to have many script/core mods other than NRaas. Has this ongoing game save ever "seen" (been played with) other mods in use from elsewhere that then got removed? And do you have other kinds of mods in play from other sources than here -- tuning mods won't reveal themselves in script logs, so it's often not possible for us to determine what you have or had in play. Any custom careers to go with the Careers mod that might be acting up?

Our developer will need to look at these and give a more expert prognosis, but in the meantime I would ask if a newly started test game plays out any better and if adding in NRaas ErrorTrap and Overwatch helps at all. ErrorTrap in particular will generate more script logs for you to share with us if they need interpretation, but part of its mission is to capture {"trap") errors and report on them that can otherwise be game breaking before too much damage is done. Overwatch "watches over" your game and steps in to correct issues from a long list of known problems that can occur as the game is played, quite often without the player realizing what is going wrong because it's all fixed before these known issues become a real problem.

The mods I have are from NRAAS are Careers, StoryProgression, and Master Controller. From other sites I have Pokeytax No Full Moon Lighting, and different careers and afterschool clubs from Missyhissy's Job Centre. All of these mods have worked normally, and I haven't recently deleted any mods. The only thing recently I've done to my game is download a default skin and a default eyes, both from Brntwaffles.

I'll download ErrorTrap and Overwatch and make a new game and see if those help.

Some of Missy's careers and afterschool clubs have undergone updates over the past year in case that information is of any help. If she had reports of any of them acting up alongside of SP, she would have been all over them fixing things up. Possibly there are some newer versions available for you?

Actually we could page her, she is active here on this site as well. :)

I downloaded them a few months ago, around March-April 2019 I believe.

I have Basketball, Snowboarding, and Soccer careers.
I have "Afterschool Clubs American" and "Additional Activites" for afterschool clubs, I'm not sure their exact name but that's what they're called in my downloads.

Crikey, that is a meltdown and a half!
Are those the only careers you've got? None of those have been updated yet, aside from translations so I wouldn't have thought they're being difficult.
This will sound obvious but I'll double check anyway; you've got the Careers Schools mod too, haven't you? The activities won't work if that isn't installed. I wouldn't have thought that would cause a meltdown but stranger things have happened.

So I downloaded ErrorTrap and Overwatch, and I went back into the family where the meltdown had happened. Error Trap gave me a notification that said "Error Trap Recorded: 6", is this normal or does it have anything to do with the glitching?

(Also after the meltdown I just clicked "Quit" and not "Save and Quit", so I'm back to where a was a few days prior to my game glitching out)
