Inactive sims in another town stuck in Groundhog Day loop of dying

Post by denoflions » June 17th, 2019, 5:37 am

This is an odd problem I've never had before and have failed to fix on my own. I'm hoping someone here can figure out what I've broken.

Anyways, my current save started in Bridgeport. After a few generations I decided I wanted to move to a different town. I did so with the Move -> To new town interaction on the computer. Once I arrived in Appaloosa Plains everything seemed ok but I did a save and reload just to be sure.

Once I loaded back into the save I immediately got about 25 'this person will die soon' notifications via Story Progression. All of the people were people my sims knew in Bridgeport. I thought that was weird but let it pass and it eventually gave the next messages that most of them died. After saving and coming back to the save another day I was greeted by the same 25 messages that these select (already dead) people will die soon.

Some of these sims were apparently tourists in Appaloosa Plains. I used Total Annihilation on them but the messages for them continued. I did a Save As and deleted Bridgeport entirely from this new copy of my save. Still they die in an endless cycle.

How can I free these sims from their Groundhog Day-ish torment? I'm ok with pretty much anything but my active family being destroyed at this point, though I'd like to keep the Appaloosa map if possible.

What you are likely experiencing is an out of sync TravelDB file within this save. That is where the (incorrect) data about sims dying would be coming from, not the Bridgeport nhd file that no longer exists. On your Save As copy, try deleting the TravelDB. If you had other worlds connected to this save, say from WA vacations, Uni, or Oasis, that will destroy any relationships to them and their sims though.

If the above doesn't work out either, do you still have a save of the game when active play was in Bridgeport from before the move so that you can replay this sequence another way?

We always recommend having the Traveler mod in play and moving to new worlds using its vacation, buy and move into a vacation home, invoke Change Hometown method. The built-in Move to New World way should work with Traveler in play too, but it's not as reliable. The point of this method is to actually keep the former homeworld connected but in a state of suspended animation and all of its sims in your game (and not dying every five minutes) as potential visitors to your new world with travel back to visit them also still possible; the EA way, Bridgeport as you knew it and its sims aren't supposed to be in play at all any longer going forward.

Deleting the TravelDB didn't change anything. I still see the sims in my relationship panel though without portraits. I unfortunately don't have an original Bridgeport save that isn't really old. I should be more diligent on my split saves in the future.

Would binning the family and replacing them in a fresh save file do anything for this? That is probably what I'll try next.

If you have or add in the RelationshipPanel mod, you can zap those now non-existent sims off the relationship panels by ctrl-clicking on them. Are the bogus impending death notices really still happening, though? That's seems odd.

Usually when this happens it's best to visit the offending world to simulate it which forces the minisims to sync. Since you've deleted bridgeport, you can't. Your choices now are ignore the notices or yes, bin the family and start over would fix it.
