Prompt to title books! NO!

Post by JohnL83 » March 26th, 2019, 9:58 pm

I'm getting prompted to title books my NA sims try to write. I am fine with titling my active writers books but IDK why this is happening for NA sims?? I have looked through all my SP and Career settings and turned off everything other than writing reports, but these prompts I am getting are not report prompts or titles, they are for stories and I recognize the names/titles from many other times I have had my actives write books. (I will give titles to my actives books and that is fine, I have a couple of games where some of my sims write) Reports don't have a title so I'm sure it's not that....what is going on?

The one that should be controlling that is SP > General Options > Options: Skills .> Prompt to Title Written Books > T/F
(SP Skill module required)

It is set to false, that was the first thing I checked. :(

Prompt to title books! NO!

UPDATE: It's seemed to have stopped in one of my games, but another one keeps asking me to name books. I have not played the other two games yet, ,but they were doing it last time I played them. ( I have a total of 4 separate towns/games at the moment) And once again, yes it is turned off in SP. I have all the SP extra's now too btw Not sure what the deal is there.

Prompt to title books! NO!

Post by JohnL83 » March 29th, 2019, 7:45 am

I am at my wits end here!! I have gone through everything I can imagine that is even remotely connected to book writing and I am STILL being prompted to title books in several of my games. I have double and even triple checked SP and the "prompt to title books" is set to FALSE. This is happening across multiple games. Generally I have the same settings in all of my games, but to test what is going on I have tried various settings in each of my 4 separate games/towns. Nothing is working! In fact, today I had a sim visit the household and they sat down at the PC to write and I was offered to title their book! My actives were playing Frisbee outside so I know it wasn't them!

In two of my games writing is set to FALSE for all sims except those in the writing career. Oddly enough, where I get the most requests to title books is my newest game where I have no writers in town and have set everything connected to writing to FALSE....and again, it's the one where I seem to get more requests to title books than anywhere! Is there something that I can do to troubleshoot what may be going on here? Please?!

Setting an SP push to False does not prevent sims from doing those things. It prevents SP from pushing them to do those things. The game itself will also push sim behavior.

Have you tried setting the prompt to name option to True, playing for a while, then setting it back to False?

A more drastic approach, to be considered for a test session. Remove SP entirely (and the MC Progression module if you use that or else the game will crash on startup). Set the story progression checkbox in Game Options to unchecked so that EA's does not take over. Play for a while and save, quit, reload. ErrorTrap should clear out any residual SP settings. Then put SP and its components back in, which should give you all default settings again for that world/save. No guarantee this will help, but it sounds like there is a 0 being read as a 1 somewhere in there, possibly with a flawed settings export/import and resetting the mod in that manner might fix it at least for that one world.

I will try them each and see. So far my Appaloosa Plains game isn't asking now. I have writers there, including my actives and they are the only ones who prompt me. I haven't been asked again in Sunset Valley now either, but that one got reset completely when I had to move everyone due to the ER 12's. Now I will have to try the other two and see what happens. If nothing else works I guess I can leave it be or just move them out. As I'd stated, the worst culprit is my newest game, moving them to a new town wont be such a big deal just yet, they are not too established in the town, maybe a sim-year-ish. (Year=52 days by my settings)

An oldie but a goodie....?? Okay, once again I am being prompted to title books and I have this set to False in SP. And I'm NOT being asked to do so by active sims. They are just popping up randomly when someone decides to write a book in town. I finally figured this out cuz we were at the library and I noted two sims trying to start a book and both times I got a message to title their book. I double checked SP settings and nothing about books is true. I tried removing SP and all it's components, playing a few sim hours (about 15 realtime min) Then I exited the game and went back after installing all my SP mods again. Within 10 minutes of play the darn thing started popping up asking be to title books again. Suede shoes, lavish lace..etc. Grrrrrrrrrrr!

BTW: I started a new game and I'm finally using the Starlight or whatever the "Hollywood" town is called. Not that that should matter. (never really played that town since I got the EP...and that first one is long gone) I've not had this issue in a while, so IDK what's the deal.

Did you Save (as) before exiting the game? If not, then you wouldn't have actually accomplished anything. The mods' settings are kept in the nhd files of a game save.

Yep, that was most likely the reason. Sigh...:|

I did find that I had 6 of the towns original sims who are trying to be professional authors. That's weird because none of my other towns ever have so many sims as writers? It's usually just one or two sims. I changed all of them to another profession, but I'm still getting the darn prompts. Though less frequently. I will try this again when I'm in the mood and this time do it the right way.

BTW: I'm trying my own game-challenge where I see if I can start with one sim on an empty lot and bring them to the highest wealth with no cheating on learning, LW's, needs or money. So far he has a one room 8x8 house with just utilities, a bookshelf and a bed. And no, he's not a writer. LOL
