Story Progression Overall Speed Question

Post by TheMoronicalClown96 » March 8th, 2019, 6:30 pm

I was just wondering how slow the snail speed actually is. I turned my speed to snail and also changed my sims lifespan to be at its highest. I think the speed is on Flirts, Friends and etc stories are set to like 2000-something, I think, I’ll have to double check tomorrow.

The reason as as to why I’m wondering how slow is cos’ I’m getting zero flirts or romance stories happening but I am getting some friend stories yet they’re all set to the same speed and overall speed of snail?

I’m a week in and I have received no flirts or romance stories. Just your usual run-of-the-mill slacker, friends and people being hired notifications. The friends part confuses me as I shouldn't be getting them etheir, right? How slow is snail?

I do not believe that the overall speed setting impacts all of the SP Managers in the same way and they do not all have the same default settings. What you might want to do is inspect and adjust the individual speed settings for the Romance and Flirt Managers (set them to lower numbers than current) and the Friendship Manager (perhaps set it to a higher number).

The speed of the Story Manager doesn't change the rate of progression, it changes how soon you are notified by way of the stories. If it is set too high (meaning too slow), then it will never keep up with what is happening in your world and will constantly be falling further behind. Although it's possible you were not including this one in your observations anyway.

The default values for the Romance, Friendship, and Flirt Manager speeds are each 300. The default value for the Story Manager speed is 10. The individual Manager speed settings are each under SP > General Options > Options: (Flirts, Romance, Friendship, Careers, Households, Lots, Pregnancy, etc.).

igazor, At snail speed, the speed of the different mangers were at 26598. Is that too long? At slow, it was like half it... that could be too much also?

I have never seen SP Manager speed numbers set or end up that high. That would mean 443 hours (or 18.4 sim days) between runs of each cycle, rather than the default 5 hours on Normal. That would explain why some of them don't seem to be doing anything after a sim week as they would be between cycles for much longer than that.

I can't say what more optimal settings would be for your life span, and that's subject to taste anyway, but perhaps start changing them all to much lower values like 1,000, see what happens, and adjust from there?

igazor, After I set it to snail speed, I got a notification saying that I should say “Yes” or “No” adjusting my SP settings cos’ of my long sim lifespan, I said yes, maybe that’s why. I’ll adjust them to a thousand and see what happens.
