Inactive Career Issues in Bridgeport

Post by Mothman » February 20th, 2019, 12:39 am

With Story Progresssion on while playing Bridgeport, inactive Sims in the Film, Pro Sports and Music careers all not only fail to progress in their career path, but many of them end up late to work and end up fired, even if they have traits that encourage career success like ambitious and workaholic. Sims in other careers do fine. Is there any way to fix this, or is Bridgeport's push to work simply too bugged up?

Inactive Career Issues in Bridgeport

I've been playing in Bridgeport myself for a while now. Yes, sims there are often late to work. But they aren't penalized for being late meaning with declining job performance as long as they are On Their Way to Work at the required time no matter how long it takes them to get there, they just do not progress while en route so the net result is that they (usually) progress eventually anyway. There are some goof-offs and losers among the pre-made inactives whom it seems will never succeed in their careers though, no matter how much I try to help them out with traits and what should be helpful LTRs. I've also noticed a few on the other extreme, they keep working 12-15 hour days even though their shifts are officially nothing like that and they get pushed back to work if I send them home what should be to them after hours. One I remember is in the law enforcement career, another works at the hospital. Gave up on trying to figure those out, if they want to work shifts like that in order to succeed, then so be it.

Where this fails is when they cannot make it to work at all and may give up trying. I have seen this but by individual sim rather than specific to the careers listed. Do you have Overwatch in play and set to notify on stuck sims but not reset automatically? This is what I use so that when an inactive instantiates (comes out of hibernation) in an unfortunate place like stuck behind an NPC door within their apartment building I can first MC Reset them myself and then issue a Go To Work command on them if I see from their MC > Status > Career tab that they should be working. I see much less of this since I've taken a tour through all of the highrise residential buildings and removed the private NPC-only units from the ground floors by using the public room markers to replace the private ones and putting a regular (non-NPC) door in place so anyone who instantiates in there can actually get out on their own. The NPC-only units on the upper floors seem to be fine and not cause this issue. Sims will still get stuck in elevators though, so again that's Reset Sim when I am so notified and then Go To Work if it's their work hours.

Could be coincidence, but none of the sims I have added to that world myself nor those who have since immigrated in have these career related issues other than the getting stuck in elevators thing. I can't prove it exactly, but I still think many of the pre-mades in that world are just programmed to fail at their careers.

For other world lot related routing issues, EllaCharmed's version of the world seems to help. So does having NRaas GoHere in play. Since your sims' failures seem to be more centered on a small number of specific careers than mine, I have to wonder if the world lot either around those particular rabbit holes or on sims' way to them is broken in places that Ella's world fixes address better. This all still a pain to cope with, but unless one wants to remove all of the highrise buildings providing these barriers or do away with elevators entirely somehow, and change out the loser pre-made sims with fresh ones, I think at least some of it might be pretty much par for the course for Bridgeport.

Inactive Career Issues in Bridgeport

Thanks for the reply,

There are some Sims with traits in those careers with either very poor job performance (Ruben Littler) or have traits that can negatively affect their performance (Tom Wordy's Grumpy/Mean Spirited traits, Big Hartley's Slob/Heavy Sleeper, Aria Trill's Loser/Couch Potato) but two Sims who should always succeed but fail are Ritchie Striker and Lola Belle (Both Ambitious, both have good job performance and other supportive traits). Both of them suffer from arriving to work late, but reading through your text makes me think that it may either be because of routing issues associated with their career rabbitholes or a massive lag in the push to work.

Overwatch works mostly well in Bridgeport, and I always let it reset stuck Sims, especially when townies get stuck going on or off elevators. I've never seen Lola Belle or Ritchie Striker get stuck on terrain, but sometimes my active Sims will be reset by Overwatch while at work (only happens in Bridgeport) but their work gauge still show them to be at work while the Sim will stand completely idle in the house/apartment building, performing no animations until their shift ends and they will still exit the rabbithole like nothing happened.

Any inactive Sim I've added into Bridgeport via Edit Town will do well in any career other then the ones I've mentioned (even with traits that are positive), so I don't think the inactives are programmed to fail, they just slack off for some reason. Could the lack of a "front door" in the celebrity properties play a part in this? As instead of entering their homes when finishing work, they stand just inside their front gate and will not hibernate if they are in the game camera's line of sight. I could use debugenabler to programs the front doors to act as they should, but that probably won't stop being them from being late/slacking off.

My sense is that Richie and his co-workers cannot progress in that career because his stoopid team never wins any games. I finally had enough of that, since he and later Sebastian are important secondary characters to my game anyway, and started playing his household as one of my SP rotations. In that case, he needed a work positive LTR (Multitasking I think it was) and me to force him to Prepare for The Game properly both on the shift prior to the scheduled games and on the afternoon of them. With me controlling him, he's demanded a promotion from his boss once, is up to Level 8 or it might be 9 now, and the Strikers are just barely the richest family in a town where I've taxed and charged sims for everything just short of breathing by way of SP Money. Incidentally, Stella is out of the picture entirely for other reasons and I had Richie's brother and one of his young kids move in with him after both of their marriages failed, so the great cash flow is now coming from the two successful high level career brothers. I doubt much of this could possibly happen on its own, SP seemed to be more interested in sending Richie fishing every chance it got.

I think I gave Aria that LTR also and may have changed one of her traits although I've never played her and just made sure she always actually went to work, which she didn't always bother doing, and she seems to have recovered from a series of demotions and is progressing much better now. Hers is the second richest family in town, just behind the Strikers. I feel like I did something with Lola as well to at least stabilize her in her career but don't remember what it was now. Can check on that the next time I'm in-game.

I've noticed the standing around the front gate thing on the celebrity homes as well and think you might be onto something about resetting the front doors. But not sure that setup is really hurting career progress, the game should be taking care of their needs anyway and SP should be pushing some kind of career progress on them it would seem. And to add, or restate, I would never want Overwatch to automatically reset stuck sims. Notify me sure, as annoying as that gets, but I get to decide when they are reset due to the false positives that can get kicked up and the possibility of sims getting stuck behind doors that need to be reset or replaced, that I would never notice if I don't actually go looking for the sims when they are reported as stuck or unroutable.
