UL World (original) questions

Post by Chryss » February 6th, 2019, 6:36 pm

I apologize if this has been asked before - search isn't working well for me.

So, after following the 8 million steps for sending inactives to University, I get to the final step with professors only to realize wait... rabbithole? *facedesk* ... so that's what uni homeworld means... don't I feel dumb. Well, okay then, time to ask the experts.

1. Is there a way to accomplish this in the original world? I really don't want a Uni in the regular hood.
2. Alternatively, is there a way to easily (without tons of manual work) refresh the students and profs in the original world and have them function the same? I get really sick of the same ppl across families/generations, and SP seems to bork it if it's active.

Also, on an unrelated problem - there always seems to be 10 or so inactives hanging around outside my bookstore. The SP lot settings are on default. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi there. There is no way to push inactive sims out of a currently being played homeworld into a foreign one nor to send them away to Uni. Uni World counts as a foreign world. Yes, it does sound like you were following the tutorial for a Homeworld University, which is not want you want.

You can do almost whatever you like with the premade Uni World population -- Totally Annihilate (TA) them with MasterController, allow them to age up and out of the experience, move them to other worlds, etc. The game itself is supposed to regenerate some fresh student bodies for the next term before classes start. I never wait for that and use StoryProgression's Rapid Immigration to repopulate Uni World to my liking, although to be fair usually with the goal of replacing 1/2 to 1/3 of the population each time rather than entirely everyone. It takes some work doing it that way, and the incoming sims will all be living in off-campus housing, so some further mod action like MC > Add Sim may be required to get the dorms and frat/sorority house populated. To me this is all part of the fun, though.

I've never had any problems running SP's progression in Uni World or any foreign world, although some things do work a little differently. If pregnancies are allowed to form they won't progress during a visit there, and you don't want the entire Uni World population trying to cram themselves into what might be only two or three rabbithole jobs (if you have added rabbitholes like a hospital maybe) off-term. But where exactly are things borking on you?

Hi, igazor, and wow on the quick response! As to #1 - yeah, I kinda figured.

I suppose bork isn't the right way to put it. It's functioning the way SP should (although I've never quite gotten the hang of immigration/emigration.) The thing is that I'd really like it to just function solely as a University. I wish EA had just given us the ability to reset UL and WA. I hate their default 'one and done' nature. Oh well. Thanks anyway!

Well again, setting SP aside if you use MasterController to Totally Annihilate or do other things with the stock resident population of Uni World, then the game itself should repopulate the place with new sims (not the same ones over again) before classes begin once it notices there aren't enough or indeed any students around to keep yours company for that term. At least, again, that is the way it's supposed to work. :)

Yep, I'll try that. I did once before, but SP was on so that didn't work, of course. Any ideas on my weird bookstore problem?

No, but I was hoping for more information. Is this your homeworld or is it the Uni World? Are there enough other fun things for these sims to do in town? Might they all have the Bookworm trait?

It's Sunset Valley still with a lot of the original hood Sims. I've got 2 teens in the arts school which is right next to the bookstore and why I noticed it. The lag goes up significantly when they're in school.

Thanks again for your help!

I don't know what the locals would find so fascinating about the bookstore lot in SV. Maybe others here do. You could try switching off progression on the lot with SP > Lot Options > Enable Lot for Progression > False or be more selective and use Caste: Allow or Caste: Require to restrict who gets pushed to the lot by caste membership, and then see if they all find somewhere else to hang out. Note that NRaas GoHere is required for the Caste maneuver to work.

Well the other 2 rabbitholes on that lot probably contribute to it being popular since the Movie Theater is one of them and that one is usually a big draw by itself.

Oh my mistake, I must have been thinking of a different world. Should have looked this one up properly, I haven't played in SV in ages. Yes, multiple popular rabbitholes will have that effect. This can happen all on its own, I believe, in Twinbrook as well, where there is sort of a plaza downtown with several rabbitholes all on the same lot. Perhaps consider separating them out onto their own lots, or at least doing so with one of the three?
