Retuner Noob Questions

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Retuner Noob Questions

Post by enable_llamas » August 21st, 2019, 2:23 pm

Ok I'm slowly going through all the settings and have another (possibly) stupid question - it seems that just by dropping it in my mods and firing it up for the first time it already has registered all/most of the changes done by the loose tuning mods (I didn't take them out beforehand). The more specific changes like exact numbers settings for ex. appear exactly the same. Which is incredibly handy and makes my life bout a million times easier if I could just make any additional changes, export the settings, then remove the old tuning mods and get to keep the effect? Does that make sense, cause I feel my explanation got very complicated for a relatively simple question :D

Are you sure about this? Standalone tuning mods load up earlier in the game's startup process. Retuner loads up much later and its settings, which like other script mods are stored in the nhd file of the world actively being played, do not get applied until after the game clock starts moving forward smoothly (for the most part). You might want to try your method with something like 2 or 3 standalone tuning mods and their settings to be sure that's going to work well before trying to apply it to many more than that. But yes, I see where that could be very handy if things worked that way across the two tuning methods.

Well this was the first time I put it in game and loaded a test Builders Island save I have. The first bunch of changes I did without starting the game clock and noticed stuff like the No Mascot, No Gloves with Outerwear + Change to Outerwear at certain degrees, Faster Raking and such were already as needed without changing anything. Then I unpaused cause I needed to check something and age down one sim from A to YA to get the YA sim menu so I let the game clock run for a while. Then paused again and continued tweaking, and came across Heckling already disabled for autonomous and some other No Autonomous thing I forgot...

My logic was that if exported settings factor in all the settings as they are the moment you export, hopefully they'd stay the same on import into a new game without the standalone tuning tweaks - but that maybe wishful thinking, I don't know. I will test it out, tho, I just wonder which ones you can easily/immediately check, besides the no mascot... maybe the energy from coffee machine and the children can use martial arts stuff. Fingers crossed it works!

This doesn't work the way you hope it does. What's happening is Retuner is picking up the changes your tuning mods have made. Once you remove them they will go back to EA defaults. It's not aware of what is non-default and won't export any settings that you haven't set with Retuner it's self.

Ah, thank you. It was too good to be true anyway I guess, lol.

Anyway need a bit more help with enabling the "Ask To Join" on certain objects... I have mods for the bubble bar and the store blackjack table but I've gone through so many options and can't find it. Where could it be hiding?

Try going through the object menu. For example, Retuner > Settings > General > By Object, then look for the object. I'm not sure if what you're referring to as a "Bubble Bar" will actually appear in the list as "Bubble Bar" although it should have a similar name. Same as the Blackjack Table. Sorry, I'm not in game at the moment so unable to check.

Alternatively, click on the object itself. See 'Step 3' of this Retuner FAQ, I want to change ITUN tuning, how do I do that?

Settings > General > By Object is the first path I checked but it's not there unfortunately. The bubble bar btw is that LN hookah-like thing they sit and smoke blow bubbles from. It was called the same or pretty close, I did find it but not the joinable options. I didn't think to enable the object menu and check from there, will do.

Ok I've done the enabling of the object menu and then tried the bubble bar itself menu, the sim who was currently using it menu, clicking with the sim who was using it on the other one who was standing nearby and nothing "ask to join" related showed up. If it's any hint, I think it's a more global option somewhere cause I've looked into the ITUNs of both the tuning mods I have and they have the same part in it:

<Tradeoff name="BlowBubbles">
<Localization autoGenerate="False" />
<Time value="1" addRoute="True" />
<Exit funExit="False" stressExit="True" interruptible="False" />
<RouteLeadIn allowed="False" />
<AskJoinInteraction joinable="True" />
<AllowAutonomousReinforcement allowPraise="False" allowScold="False" />
<ScoringFunction alwaysChooseBest="False" name="" specificCommodity="None" />
<ActionTopic name="" ActionTopicUnavailableAfterActionFinishes="False" />

Doesn't look like it's possible with Retuner then. The mod has its limitations. See the following FAQ for details, particularly points 2 and 3 under the heading "Now the downside:".

What are the advantages and disadvantages of tuning using this mod?

Thanks, that's actually pretty helpful as I can leave it alone and not search every crane and nook for possible options :) Tuning mods it is then!
Oh and I pm'd you today on MTS, Sarah, cause I saw you in the comments of the cigarette mod but didn't think you'd probably be more likely to see it here, I can just copy it over :D
