Retuner Newbie has questions

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Retuner Newbie has questions

Post by FatTribble » July 7th, 2017, 10:13 pm

I just started using Retuner, and I want to replace as many of my mods as possible with Retuner settings. While SarahSims blog and the Members Retuner setting page here have been VERY helpful, I'm still a bit unclear on what is and isn't possible with Retuner. Can it be used to accomplish what the following mods do?
No coughing while eating, clean house for everyone, no autonomous berate ignorance/school cheer/trivia challenge, and no attraction gifts or calls.

TIA

Retuner is helpful in modifying XML and ITUN files. The no coughing while eating mod replaces a Jazz (animation) file which Retuner can't do. Clean house for everyone is a script mod. Berate ignorance / school cheer are modifications to XML and ITUN files (I believe berate is under Social Behaviors - Cheer is an ITUN) and should be able to be changed with Retuner. No gifts / calls is an XML mod (Attraction Phone Call Chance) which can most likely be changed with Retuner. Hope this helps :)

Hello FatTribble - There are lots of tips for Retuner Settings <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Behaviour+I ... ">Behavior In General Page</a>.

You will also find lots of tips and links here on the <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Gameplay+FA ... ">Gameplay FAQ and Tips Page</a>. More Retuner tips on this page in addition to other mods in the NRaas suite. For your Attraction calls see the Attraction Calls link in the "What Is Your Question Column".

It's me again Margaret.

Okay the options given to me above by brappl are also being very helpful, but I'm still struggling with what some of the settings mean. FYI, I'm neither very computer literate nor good at math - at ALL - so this is partly why I'm confused. This is an example: I have a mod to change the time to do homework to 45 minutes. On SarahSims blog, I found this:
Homework > kBaseCompletetionPerMinute > 3.33 (Default:0.556)

Shamefully, the math moron needs to know, does that mean they complete 3.3 percent of their homework per minute? Rounding off because #&$ math, it should take them approximately 20 minutes to do their homework with this setting? Basically what I'm focussing on now is figuring out which values to put in fields like this. I'm sure more questions will come. There's no actual Tutorial for Dummies on Retuner is there? I have read the interactions and FAQ pages. How much I understood is a different matter.

TIA

Do you have S3PE installed? Often I'll open up a tuning mod in S3PE to see what's in it. For tuning mods there should be an xml resource you can right click it and open it up in a text editor. I suggest Notepad++, which is free. Install that and set S3PE to use it as a text editor. (To do that go into S3PE, click on Settings>External Programs, and in the pop up check to use an external text editor, then in the box navigate to the Notepad++ executable. The advantage of viewing xmls in Notepad++ is that Notepad++ color codes the xml stuff.)

Have a look at the xml file in Notepad++ and see if there's any setting that will do what you want (like kBaseCompletionPerMinute). Then you'll know how the modder changed that setting, and you can then make that change in Retuner, assuming you can find the setting in Retuner, lol. For finding settings in Retuner I use the Full EA Tuning file here: <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Retuner+FAQ ... %20File</a> Notepad++ has a really nice search functionality so I use that to find stuff in the Full EA Tuning file. Anyways, that's how I do it. Note, this suggestion will only work for tuning mod, not script or core mods.

You are in luck with that homework setting, the info you want is on this mod page: http://modthesims.info/d/463449

TreyNutz, you are brilliant. :) Thank you so much! I do use S3PE to compress my package files, so I'm somewhat familiar with it. I'm off to do as you suggest. Thank you thank you! :D

Okay so I fiddled around with retuner and I feel a bit more confident with it now. I was using it in a test/depopulated world with only 1 sim. I decided today I was happy with the settings I'd made and was ready to import them to a normal game. Something is not working though.

I read up on here and THOUGHT that the process was this: export settings, which will create a script error file. This part seems to have worked correctly. Place this file in the library folder. Go into your new game, click on nrass > overwatch > immediate > import settings, choose the mod you want to import settings for, and voila, it should work. This is where I'm stuck. I get a message at this point (should have written it down, darn it) which says something like, there are no settings to import.

I googled and searched here and I give up. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

When we export settings, a library file holding those settings is created for us. You can see it if you really want to by retreating to Edit Town and looking in the Household or Lot Bin, although you can't do anything with the exported settings that way other than delete them. We shouldn't be putting script logs in the Library folder.

Did you actually select which mod(s) to export settings from? Overwatch will allow exports of any NRaas mod you have installed, but you have to select the one(s) you want.

Hello FatTribble..
When you export the action puts the setting in your library files not a script error.
There are instruction and tips detailing how to do this on the <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/MOD+SETTINGS">Mod Settings Page</a>
The link for that page is also found in the Gameplay Tips page I linked to above under Mod Settings.
Does this help?
