Paparazzi Spawning and Register

Post by StarkofGenius » September 11th, 2018, 8:39 pm

I'll be quick with this one. I searched for Paparazzi topics and only came up with 2, both from 2016. Didn't want to revive them and wasn't sure if the issue would have been fixed between then and now.

Register seems to work fine for me. If I don't like a sim in a given role for any reason, I remove them and the mod assigns or generates a new one, depending on if I have residents available or not. Animal control seems to be working perfectly at keeping my wild/stray population to the values I set.

Not the Paparazzi, though. I find them annoying (as I imagine most people do), and usually the game generates 3, the default value in Register. I went in and changed it to one. When some time had passed and it was still listing the 3 paparazzi, I removed two of them. And it was fine - until I loaded the game up again another day. After a few sim-minutes it shows me the message that some two sims have been assigned as paparazzi, bringing it back up to 3.

So my questions is, considering I read a comment from Chain saying that option to control the number of paps was broken back in 2016: is it still broken?
Which is okay, I can live with that and I understand it might not be easy to fix, and people have their own lives and limited free time. I'd just like to know if there's anything I can do, or if for the time being all that can be done is removing them manually each time I play (or not at all because that would become boring fast xD)

Any tips or info is always appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What version of Register do you have? This particular issue with the Paparazzi was fixed in v81, fully released in 2017.

If you do not want Paparazzi you could simply go into Register > Global Roles > Allow Paparazzi > False that way they do not spawn at all. If you just want less instead of the default 3, then all I can suggest is reinstall Register and try changing it. Cause usually when I changed the allowed number it worked fine. I run TS3 1.67+ (even though I do not like it that much)

According to Register, 81 is the version I have. I might reinstall it nevertheless, just in case it helps. Thanks for the tips.

No luck. The game continues to spawn new paparazzi when I load up (always two, because it seems to keep the last one I left) and/or throughout gameplay I think though this seems to happen less often, some time after I've removed the extra paparazzi with Register.

I didn't want to disable them completely - I just want the convenience of only having one instead of three. Also, when I went into Register (n. of paps allowed was 1) and clicked that and entered 1 again, to see if it 'stuck' this time, it threw up an error, and created the corresponding file.

Lastly, probably just a typo but I just noticed that the window to set the max number of paps says something like: 'if there are more animals than the specified number, they will be cleansed' - I'm paraphrasing, I'm not sure of the exact wording, just that instead of paparazzi (as it says in the phrase just before, 'set the max number of paparazzi allowed' or something) it says animals. I guess for some of the real-world ones that description might be applicable xD

Might we get to see the error file the mod generated?

Done. Hopefully I uploaded it to the right place. In any case, you can see it in Recent Changes - thanks, Igazor.

Thanks, that does read like a script programming error with Register. i can't immediately see what, if anything, could be interfering with it. Chain will have to see this and comment when he gets to this thread.

It is breaking trying to remove existing ones, yes. Not sure what's going on with them respawning but I've noted that as well.

I assume you mean in your own game or while testing, Chain? Or was that what you found in the file?
In any case, thanks for the reply. I'll let them be for now or disallow them if they get annoying. Once there's a new version of Register, if it comes, I'll be sure to download it.
