On Register

Role Sims, homeless, service Sims, oh my. Something tells me we're not in Sunset Valley anymore.

On Register

Post by dlseis » December 18th, 2017, 9:30 am

So, I have relegated some of my excess active Sims into Register's disposal. Is it normal to have their needs maxed out everytime they are called to work? Is there a way to turn it off? I am amused (and annoyed, or worried) that when my Sim accepted that Food Merchant Role, she never slept again. It's as if they're on drugs or something.

Register is supposed to do that for them not only when first pushed to work but throughout their shifts, otherwise we would have Role Sims dropping like flies from exhaustion and other needs not being met due to their insanely long work hours and the constant pushes back to their stations throughout. Role (and Service) Sims don't have realistic lives to lead, they are really only supposed to perform their functions and not be paid much attention to otherwise. Quite a few of us don't like that and allow SP to progress at least some them during any downtime they may have and some of us rotate some of them in and out of role assignments and regular careers so they have a chance of a fraction of a life along the way.

But even though they can be residents, Role Sims are never meant to be part of the active player controlled household. Some players can make this work a bit though it's not intended, but some find that they keep losing their role assignments along the way. Even Arsil recognized this limitation when he designed his Custom Role Sim mod and he and others started talking about them being actively played. It's allowed technically, but it really isn't "supposed" to happen.

I do have some Role Sims, maybe a couple, in the households through which I rotate active play. Out of habit, I always remove them from those roles before playing them and reassign them (if I want to) when making the households inactive and moving on to the next ones to play.

I mostly asked because of icarusallsorts' Eat Outside Mod. I gave the waiters a decent schedule, around six hours, and a decent salary to boot. I then immigrated the npc ones so as to provide relationship fodder to some of the single Sims in town. Same goes to the ones running the Salon & Tattoo, the Consignment Shop, and the venues. For me, their work hours are still justifiable enough for them to get some life.

Understood and those are some great things to have done. But as it stands right now, I do not believe there is a way to stop Register from maxing out their needs even if actively being played. I think we'll need our developer to weigh in on whether such should be considered a feature request for the mod or if it's even feasible.

If it's meant to be a feature, it might be good for it to be a one-time max motive boost just before those Sims go to work. As far as I have observed, their needs are always maxed out. I just pretend that they are constantly injected with drugs by the oppressive government in order to get them going.

It is meant to be a feature, and such a one-time boost would not be enough for those who are expected to work an 18-23 hour shift or who might be outside in all kinds of weather during these shifts. I am sure nobody minds if a cashier or bartender stops working just long enough to eat or use the bathroom, but having them go into the red on Energy, Fun, and Social would not be helpful, nor would having them overheat or freeze on us. We can't see it unless we do a MC > Sim > Basic > Mood on them, but Temperature is one of the moods that should routinely be reset and some of them are stationed outside in all kinds of weather.

The question before us then is, can a future version of Register make this feature less aggressive and/or optional.

But at the risk of repeating myself, Role Sims were never meant to be played as part of the active household even with the mods in use. Thus Register does not account for that, currently.
