Register Valid Ages

Role Sims, homeless, service Sims, oh my. Something tells me we're not in Sunset Valley anymore.

Register Valid Ages

Post by johannshah » March 16th, 2017, 4:10 pm

Hello.
I tried changing the valid ages of newspaper delivery but Register wouldn't give me the option. Can I do it with StoryProgression since there's a service caste?

You can change the allowable age ranges of some Service Sims with Register. Some will not appear because there is no outfit in the game suitable for other ages to wear so it cannot happen -- pizza deliverers can be elders for example, but newspaper deliverers must be children and toddlers cannot be club bouncers (my favorite on the wish list, if there were one).

Some are blocked by the game core for reasons only EA knows -- e.g., teens cannot be mixologists of any kind, including the Service Sim type.

SP won't do a thing here. The Service Sim caste dictates the behavior of its members, it doesn't allow or disallow sims from being functional Service Sims only from being caste members.

Oh, there's a mod at TFM that turns all service sims to YA

http://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php?/to ... -npc-sims/

I'm not really sure how it works and I'm kinda scared to put it in my mods folder as it will crash the game.

Forgot to say that the modder also said (in comment) that the mod would also turn the newspaper delivery into YA.

Bluegen's mods are brilliant and typically, if they conflict with anything NRaas, she would have said so. However, this one and its comments pre-dated Register's ability to control the age of Service Sims at all; that function was added by Chain after Twallan's retirement. I don't think we can say how or if this mod and Register will function together until someone tries that combo and tells us.

I'd be curious if said mod actually works. I didn't think it a good idea to allow ages I knew no outfits existed for.

Thank you all for the confirmation. I've had that mod for a long time but never been willing to install it since I got Register. Now that she also mentioned it worked with newspaper delivery, it'd be interesting to turn the newspaper delivery to YA because those poor children shouldn't go work at school hours.

Service sims like newspaper carriers and babysitters do show up at schools sometimes when they aren't on duty (and often the "wrong" ones I might add if we use SP and GoHere to restrict schools by age or some other factor), but it's really just for show. Although if lucky enough to run into some, your own sims might befriend them as schoolmates along the way.

They aren't getting much of an education there as SP will not progress Service Sims since they are homeless and not residents. EA's progression does the same. But I do understand that it just looks wrong to see them working during school hours. I kind of pretend they are being homeschooled, on and off.

Probably a useless caste but some time ago I did create one for Service Sims and a Caste for just Children. I assign all the little ones to the Public School and much to my surprise they do attend school daily even if after their little paper routes. I often see them at 2PM displaying "Going to School" on their tag. I realize they do not progress but they do make friends with my resident sims kids and sometimes come home from school with them or just show up on the doorstep to visit. I generally end up adopting them into the family, LOL.

Ah yes, brappl and her affinity for strays. I forgot that extends to the human variety as well.

I treat my homeless sims with the utmost of kindness and respect and this is how some of them pay me back:
