Relativity mod - contradiction between Sim animations, motives and pace of time

Post by rulerkelso » February 27th, 2016, 8:41 am

Hi. i will be glad for some advice:)
Im trying to adjust that Relativity mod, and now the game behave little strange. Mod itself is doing what it is supposed to do - slow down time flow, except sims animation. For example when character is eating, he fills his "hunger" motive quickly as before (in terms of real time, not ingame time, which flows slower now), but he is still eating and eating, even when he is sated and there still the full plate, so those animation has maybe some hard-coded interfals, how many sim hours he will eat, regardless if time is slower or faster. In mod interactions menu I found adjustments for skill gain, motive decay, but not adjustments for how long specific animations lasts :))
Same for showering, without interrup sim will shower his usual patch of time despite time is slowed now significantly and his hygiene motive is already full. probably problems with every animation in regard of fulfilling motives.

Couple of possible misconceptions here. Motive filling during certain relief type activities (eating, sleeping, showering for example) are handled differently from each other by the game. Eating for example -- when you direct a sim to eat a meal, they don't stop if/when their hunger bar is full. It takes so many forkfulls of food to finish a meal; more for full servings but fewer for quick meals and snacks. A sim will take the same amount of time to eat a particular meal when their hunger bar is on 0, all the way in the red, as they will when they weren't really all that hungry to begin with since they must consume the same number of forkfulls before finished -- difference being they will end up with the "Stuffed" moodlet and/or possibly gain weight if you keep making them eat when they aren't hungry. There are ways using different mods, including a Retuner strategy, to change the number of forkfulls each meal contains but those are across the board changes and still is not dependent on how hungry a sim was to begin with.

Showering is different, it will take a very dirty sim longer to clean themselves in the shower than one who was only a bit off full for hygiene.

The main point of Relativity is really to speed up the amount of game clock time it takes to get through these tasks, not quite so much the amount of real time. What do you have the mod's overall Set Speed on? The default is 37, which is the same as EA standard, and doesn't actually change anything here. Many players use 19, or some lower number, to speed tasks up by half or more again relative to the game clock. I prefer 23, the lower numbers just make things happen too quickly relative to the game clock for me and things feel less smooth overall.

The motive/skills delta and decay adjustments are helpful and should be adjusted when you find that your sims are getting hungry at all the wrong times (too often, not often enough) or waking up fully refreshed at 3am every morning and/or becoming exhausted by 5pm every day, for example. Or gaining skills too quickly/slowly for your tastes again relative to the game clock. But we all have different strategies for dealing with those situations, some of them more complex than others.

Regardless, the animations will be off in many instances if you watch them closely enough. It may seem like time is being dragged back and forth as sims complete a task. But the net effect is worth it for most of us.

Yep, game behave very strange when I have relativity mod enabled, all sims habits are way off. Set it to 10 and now they are doing everything toooo long unless I interrupt them after they fill their motives. Idk if I have something wrong in there, or it behaving properly like that:) Good that motives and skilling adapts to relative time, but is there any way how to adjust duration of fulfilling of the base needs too? (eg. showering, gardening, eating...)

An overall setting of 10 is pretty aggressive, although some players like that setting. Have you tried 19 to see if it behaves better for you?

@rulerkelso - I have found it sometimes takes a little time for the settings to resinate and sometimes it takes a few tries to find a setting that works the way you want it to. I started at 23, then 19, then 10 and I finally found a happy medium at 15. Don't give up on it. It's a great mod.
