Auto TFB canceling out?

Post by indignantgirl » October 14th, 2019, 11:06 pm

Generally, once I allow auto TFB, my guys all TFB their brains out until both men from all couples are pregnant at the same time. I mean, within 30 sim minutes somebody is pregnant.

I'm playing a new save and the entire town is disallowed from TFB. Except one couple, mostly because I'm interested in occult hybrid babies all of a sudden. I have the base chance settings lower than previously so things don't run amok. EXCEPT the sims in question aren't TFB at all. Zero. My settings are lower, but not that low. So I've started playing them exclusively (rather than rotating) to investigate and I'm noticing the sims will actually roll a TFB but then it blinks away, several times in a row. Woohooing goes through just fine, but not TFB.

My settings are the same in this save (except lower percentages), so all I can think is that I'm forgetting some setting, somewhere other than woohooer? The sims in question definitely are allowed to be pg and participate in SP. They will TFB when user-directed. They can become pg using the pregnancy controller. (One is now pg from a user-directed risky, so no problems there.)

What setting could I be overlooking?

It doesn't sound like your sims are rejecting the notion of TFB once it's been offered nor are they reacting to an overly full household or a town at or above its population cap because in those cases the scenario shouldn't even get started. The only thing I can think of offhand based on your description is that the autonomous instances of TFB are focusing on a woohoo object that your sims cannot route to, whereas your player-directed instances are focusing on locations that are more reachable.

If two sims choose to woohoo (any of the three "kinds") and the target accepts the offer, the scenario is only going to push them to a nearby woohoo object so many times before it gives up and cancels itself. Sometimes I see things backfire when I am watching them intently on-screen and the two sims route to two different objects, which can lead to the scenario timing out as well.

I know what you mean. The upstairs shower in this particular house causes problems for all the couples who have lived here. Many thwarted woohoos. Not always, but at least half the time. Why I haven't just replaced it with a bathtub so they stop trying to route there, I have no idea. And it's funny you should bring this up, because I realized I'd never had them TFB or risky in their house. User-directed, it's always risky in the arboretum or the tardis.

Although, in case it's relevant, the sim never gets as far as proposing TFB to the target. The pic of their bed and TFB pops up in the queue, and then cancels out before he can make a move. But it does happen several times in a row, like the game is pushing him to make a move and he just stands there thinking about his bed. But then it pushes a regular woohoo and he goes right for it.

One thing that is very telling: they never got pg when inactive. Which was a LOT of the time. Generally the game loves to surprise me by knocking up my sims while I'm with another family. (I jump around a lot.) It seems like even if there was no active TFB, SP would have taken care of it while I was away.

Maybe at some point I should turn TFB base chance up really high, like 100%, to see what happens. As much as they WH I feel like I'll have a lot of opportunities to see what's going on and troubleshoot a bit. And I'll replace that faulty shower, just in case.

And it couldn't be anything to do with occult ratios or anything else occulty, right?

Probably not relevant: They had previously been in a manual caste that disallowed pregnancy. I removed that so they could have a baby and SP now shows a -1 value for manual caste, which I know it's not supposed to be negative or ---, but I don't know how to make go back to blank. That couldn't be causing some kind of confusion, could it?

That wouldn't be my guess, but it's not difficult to fix. Given them the manual caste back again so that their number of manual castes is not negative. The better way to remove those is then SP > Sim (or Household) Options > Reset to Defaults > Caste Manual > (name of your caste).

So I turned TFB up to a base chance of 100 and the sims stopped WH altogether. Just a lot of hand-holding and watching the stars (not unlike when the game is pushing back on autonomous teen-adult romances).

Until I unlinked SP. There was an immediate TFB after that. I like having SP linked, so this is not ideal, but it's a start.

I then imported some settings from a different save (for all nraas mods using overwatch) and my sims were able to risky every time (even though it was set to 25, and TFB set to 75). Until I unlinked SP and again I got a TFB pretty quick.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those why why why people. So. Why why why? I know from all the forums that unlinking SP and WHer clears up various WH issues. Why is that? Is there something in SP that is overriding WHer? Something that I could, in theory, find and change? Or is it more a case of the occasional, inexplicable "not-getting-alongness" between the two mods that just can't be helped.

Because I'll gladly burn this mother down trying to find the problem, if it's something that could possibly be found. Since the SP link seems to be key, would it likely be a SP specific setting, or is Retuner also unlinked? Could it be occult-related? Just trying to think of a place to start poking around.

Many of us find the link between SP and Woohooer to be unreliable at best. There does need to be age-specific caste support for romance and baby making arranged in SP going in both directions (meaning older caste-Teen and Teen-older caste) for each of the age castes involved in order for this to work properly, and for the two gender castes. And any other castes that get in the way of pregnancy are also going to cause blocks.

But I can never get the link between the two mods to remain stable myself. I keep losing the Romantic menu entirely on sims who should be nothing but romantic with each other. Our developer insists that this is caused by lack of SP caste support, which I know in my case is not what is happening; the issue strikes most often for me during and after world travel. It's been a minor point of annoyance between us for years now.

In any event, and not because of what happens in my game in particular, the next version of Woohooer that is currently in beta testing has the link to SP set to False by default because of the trouble that it can cause and players' lack of understanding it. I've been playing with the link off for years now with very few side-effects of that to worry about. It should be noted though that if SP is not set to properly allow the sim to be impregnated to actually be pregnant, then with the link off TFB can happen but SP will silently terminate the resulting pregnancy once it is noticed.

Auto TFB canceling out?

It is moody and I haven't figured out exactly why. Obviously there's a disconnect somewhere. Do check your castes and ensure everything is setup as it should be.

Have you noticed if it resolves after a game reload? And you can confirm the castes are properly setup in the world you traveled to?

I went through all of those things years ago; no on the reload and yes on the caste setups. But I can try again at some point. The sims in question were not always teens and trying for baby was not the issue I was trying to work out, it was more typically a total lack of Romance commands or behavior in contexts where it made no sense (to me) for there to be restrictions. I mean, one of them is (was) a YA with at the time something like 28 RIs in different worlds and a few dozen illegitimate children. Between him not being able to flirt or even try to woohoo and his older sibling, the opposite totally and forever devoted to his life partner, not being able to be romantic with that partner, I kind of gave up and walked away from the issue as breaking the SP linked resolved all of those things.

But let's also keep in mind that these observations were limited to my ongoing game that has been through quite a lot since I started it in 2011 up to and including AwesomeMod being in then out and a bazlillion iterations of NRaas mod versions. It may not be the best one to be using to troubleshoot the SP link. :)

Auto TFB canceling out?

Post by indignantgirl » October 18th, 2019, 1:37 pm

I'm kind of...glad? To know it's not necessarily something I can fix, personally. I have been monitoring them obsessively, and they were definitely not TFB or getting pg on the sly. The SP settings looked exactly right. But.

I grabbed another set of settings from a SV save where Parker and Leighton and the Frio boys are popping out babies one after the other, so they HAD to be right. In doing so, I noticed that those boys were in a manual caste with a level 10 priority, which had all the TFB-related settings on a caste level. Rather that what I was originally working with on this save, where I have those things set ONLY on a sim-level. Adding my sims to that high-priority manual caste seems to have mostly resolved it. TFB still cancels out more than it succeeds, but that could be for any number of reasons.

I realize this probably means something is amiss with my sim-level settings, or maybe I needed those settings on at least a household level. In the past I've always changed both Sim and Household just to be safe, but not this time. Anyways, it's a workaround I can live with. The main reason I like WHer and SP linked is I like to make extra double sure there is no extramarital flirting with my married couples. And I like that it fact checks me when I accidentally user-direct something I shouldn't have.

I do have one more question: What is the priority between the 3 "types" of WH? I guess WH is the default unless TFB or Risky is enabled, but then do they roll for Risky and THEN TFB if that fails, or vice versa? Or do they roll for all three at the same time, with weight distributed by the base chances? I'm probably not asking this right. I'm envisioning it like how the game decides straight/gay/bi.

With the second settings I tried, my sims could Risky 100% of the time, and TFB zero, even though TFB was set at 75 and Risky was only 25. So I'm guessing it actually rolls through TFB first? And since the game wouldn't let them TFB, it got demoted to Risky? I'm definitely asking this wrong. XD Sorry about this.
