Game keeps mass-assigning the law enforcement career to unemployed sims

The mod that's bigger than 80's hair. We promise to help tame the beast.

Game keeps mass-assigning the law enforcement career to unemployed sims

Post by ChrisNonyminus » October 17th, 2019, 12:40 pm

I need help. The game keeps making all unemployed sims (including homeless sims and role/service sims (yes, even aliens; yes, even THE GRIM REAPER), as well as some sims from my own household) members of the law enforcement career track. No matter how hard I try to stop or prevent it (by having all of them quit their job, disallowing certain castes from being part of the career track or finding a job, or setting "Manage Coworkers" to false), they keep coming back (even the sims who are part of the caste I set to not find a job or be disallowed from becoming cops; curiously, the game seems to set the career track back to "allow" for those castes).
Help.

Do you have any heavy hitting script or core mods from other sources, not NRaas, in play?

The settings for NRaas mods such as those explicitly placed on a caste by way of City Hall or an in-game computer do not change all on their own. What can change is not the caste settings themselves but whether the settings get applied to sims who might be a member of multiple castes. You either have a corrupt game save, although this would be an awfully strange example of such showing up, someone is sneaking into your computer when you step away and changing your SP settings for you (not likely, probably), or some other force is affecting them by editing the same game resources that SP uses. Before taking action to correct things, we would want to know if anything even remotely similar happens on some test runs if NRaas mods are the only ones in play.

Especially since Service Sims in particular cannot be part of the service pool when they have a regular career. From the sound of it, your game must be generating new Service Sim replacements around as fast as they are being dragooned into the one career.

Okay. Then you might consider (on a TEST copy of this game so as not to disturb anything) removing SP and if you use it the MC Progression module entirely. Play the game for a bit, not very long and with EA's story progression switched off, Save As, and quit. Then put SP back in. All settings and castes should then be reset to default and you could start from there to see if things improve; ErrorTrap might help make the transition from your current settings to no settings at all run smoothly but it shouldn't be totally required.

In theory you could also export settings from a newly started game with no changes made and import into this one, but not sure that will restore any deleted castes, if any had been deleted in the ongoing game, nor remove any improperly set ones.

I changed the settings back to that of a previous save and the mass-assigning is still happening.

But we do not yet know what your previous save's settings indicate. Am I to infer from this that you are not able or willing to remove SP or otherwise arrange its settings to revert to the mod's default?

Okay, we could try this. If you want, you could export the SP mod's settings. That will create a new Library file. It will be named cryptically like all of the other files in the Library folder, but it will be the one at the time with the most recent creation day/time on it; you can rename the file for easier identification. Then upload this file to a third party file host and provide a link (or upload it here since the file size will be small, if you can get the File Upload Manager overlay to work) and I will take a look at the settings once imported into a test game on my end. It will likely be sometime into the weekend before I can get to that, though.

Unless our developer or another player comes along in the meantime and recognizes this issue. I've never heard of this happening before.

Game keeps mass-assigning the law enforcement career to unemployed sims

On an initial run on a new game (well, one that was only around one sim hour old or so), I'm not seeing anything horribly wrong with your SP settings nor am I getting rampant stampedes on the law enforcement career. I did change the speed of progression to Normal, the import seemed to put it at Snail, so that things wouldn't take too long to happen.

I got the usual SP moving a few sims around and giving jobs to unemployed residents (not grim reapers nor other service sims). The caste settings are flowing down to the sims I've checked on in the way that it looks like you have intended. Before importing your settings, my town had 2 sims in law enforcement. There are now 3.

One thing I noticed were some unexpected entries for min/max co-workers. This might not really mean anything, but do you have the Careers mod in play on your end and, if so, are you using the beta testing version? Your game might not be reacting well to that one, although we haven't had any negative reports on it that I know of until now. If you don't even have the Careers mod (I mean the mod by that name, not the SP Career module which is different), then this is a non-issue and the setting is being inherited by the game on my end.

I'll let things run for a while longer when I can return to this, but not sure how long or how many cycles of SP's career manager really need to run before concluding that I'm not going to get this weird effect. In the meantime, have you tried importing your settings into a new (different) world/game save to see if the same thing happens? And if it does happen in other worlds, how long does it take before it does?

What world are you playing where this is happening and what kind of an install (Origin, Steam, retail disc, or something else and what patch level if on disc) is this on your end?
