Toddler witches?

Post by JohnL83 » October 16th, 2019, 9:55 am

So I've read the forums on SN Sims and I have a toddler witch who is using magic. Just small things like making her toys appear and disappear, but when I read the forums it said that witches can't do anything until they are teens!? What gives here and does anyone have experience with witches in the game? I have a second sim family in SN, other than the Durwood's, it's two warlocks who have a toddler child and she's doing magic. For the longest time I kept hearing the magic woosh and couldn't figure out where it was coming from, then low and behold the little witch is making her toy disappear and reappear. I felt like Darren the first time he realized Tabitha was also a witch. LOL

I also now, for the first time ever, have a toddler who's an alien. In a previous game or two, before I went to modding and no SN or Alien stuff of any kind, I did have a couple of guys have alien babies, but I opted to give them back since they are kind of ugly IMO and I wasn't interested in having unreal things like this in my game. So I have no expirence with this. But I'm doing SN in Moonlight Falls so I'm pulling out all the stops and having some fun. (Darren Durwood got made preggers by a alien and he had the kid) So far my alien toddler isn't doing anything differently from any other kid, but pointers on having an alien Sim would be nice. I read up on a few things, but I know everything doesn't always get covered in those forums.

The spellcasting (witchcraft) hidden skill does not evolve for sims to work on until they are teens. I believe it's the same as with vampires, the toddler witches can do a small number of innocuous things like make their toys appear in the same way that toddler vamps have some special playtime animations associated with them, but nothing to really build upon until they are older. Remember, Tabitha couldn't do much that was meaningful at such an early age either, the world around here didn't really change because she got her stuffed animals to fly around the room or because she could summon them into her crib. I mean, she couldn't even twitch her nose properly yet either (yes I know that was a camera trick even for Samantha but to be fair it was all camera tricks and the like), call on Dr. Bombay to make a house visit, help Durweed keep or lose his clients, or any of those more adult things when she was that little. :)

Aliens I'm afraid someone else will have to explain. I've never raised one from a baby.

Not true! :) Elizabeth Montgomery was asked when she got the part if she had any kind of trick or skill that would be unique to Sam being a witch and she said she could wiggle her nose. Montgomery said she never actually wiggled her whole nose, but the muscles underneath and that gave the appearance she was twitching her nose. As for Tabitha, she used her fingers to twitch until she got older and then they gave her her own movements for when she did grander things like turning the class bully into a frog or changing her friend into a butterfly.
ahem....Sorry..
. I own the entire DVD set from seasons 1-8 and I've watched all the extras and commentary. Many of the camera tricks are obvious when you watch and it's pretty bad effects, I can remember on TV noticing the split screen when Sam and Serena were on the same view, but they at least cleaned that up on the DVD's so it did look much better. The rest of the effects they left alone other than cleaning up images because they said it was part of the shows charm and history. :)
My favorites were always Aunt Clara and Uncle Arthur. By the time the actress who played Clara passed away Montgomery was a producer and married to the creator, neither of them would allow the exec's to replace her as a honor to the actress, so we just never heard from her again except for the others speaking of her being off somewhere. BTW one last bit of trivia.. Marion Lorne, aka Aunt Clara, actually had a doorknob collection and they wrote that into her character! :D

And thank you for clearing that up, So can the children do anything at all? I have not gotten anything for the two children to do in regards to magic, not even with their toys. Though I do keep getting that stupid Tragic clown spell and IDK how they keep getting it because it always seems to happen when they are at school!

I know that teens witches can complete their homework using magic, after which there is a pretty strong chance that it will explode in their face and they they have to use much of the time they saved taking a shower or something to become unsinged. Not sure if children can do even that, but you could look in MC to see if the spellcasting hidden skill shows up yet. You could also give them a magic wand to play with, but I don't think they can do anything meaningful with it. One would think they might be able to begin conjuring apples to get a head start on the skill for when they are older?

One of my favorite scenes from that show was Serena and Uncle Arthur losing their powers and having to work for a living, manufacturing chocolate covered frozen bananas. I know it was a ripoff of the even more hilarious I Love Lucy candy factory scene ("Speed it up, Otto!"), but I always thought of it as more of honoring the earlier greatness by emulating it somewhat rather than ripping it off. And Elizabeth and Paul certainly looked like they had fun doing it. :)

Do the kids travel via the LLAMA? It has a chance of giving the Tragic Clown moodlet.

YES! Love that one too! Any of the ones with Arthur and Serena were great. Arthur and Endora were funny as brother and sister too, they played well off each other. Liz loved Paul Lynde IRL and they were friends. Also, they do mention in the extras that yes, it was actually a nod to Lucy and not really a rip off. Something about some of the same people working on both shows or something. I don't remember for sure.

gcgrad- I don't think they take the llama but I'm honstly not sure, I thought they just go by the bus which honks outside the house each morning, but I never looked as I'm so used to that noise? I'd heard about llama this and that and saw references but never knew what it meant. Is that what they call the bus in MF or do they take an actual actual animal? Forgive my ignorance, but I'm very new to SN stuff in my games. Until buying SN from this last Steam sale I never did anything with supernaturals or paid much mind to the llama stuff, though I know it was some thing from past Sims games and is mentioned often in the Sim books. I still don't really get the whole adoration of Llamas by the Sims really. Maybe I will delve into this canon a bit more and educate myself.

Okay, imagine my surprise when I looked up the llama thingy. I was a HUGE fan of Sim City and played Sim City Rush Hour and 2000 for many, many years. I'd completely forgotten that the llamas were a thing even back then. As we had llama speed and we could turn the advisors into llamas. I'm embarrassed that I forgot about this. So apparently the creator had a llama farm or loved the animals or something and it just became a running gag. But, I was beyond disappointed when the new version of Sim City and that whole mess with Origin started and all the issues with that, so I steered clear of Maxis for a LONG time. I ended up becoming obsessed with the much better Cities Skylines and that held my attention for a very long time. Thus I never did do any Sims until Sims 3 became available on Steam for just five dollars. The rest is my short history with our insane little Sims

So anyway, I will have to see how my Durwood family goes to school and perhaps pin down why they both keep getting the tragic clown curse. Which I should have done already, but was too busy learning magic and hunting for stuff for potions and such. There's just SO much new stuff with SN and ITF that I still have not done all there is to do!

Been a long time since I last played with aliens but I don't think they are able to use their alien powers until their either a teen or YA.

That can only happen from either traveling with the Llama or a sim bought the Origin of the Tragic Clown elixir or the game put one in there inventory. I think Evil, Mean Spirited and Insane sims have a chance to have one gifted to them by the game. Witches don't have a spell for that they do have the Toadification and Haunting curse and the Hunger curse can kill other sims so can their Fire Blast and Ice Blast spells if they have a high enough spellcasting skill level but thankfully the game even under EA Standard doesn't let them develop the skill past level 4 or 5 or it just takes to long to develop the skill past that unless they are a pre-made and already have the skill higher than that when they where created by the devs.
