Can't update sims

Post by Urself » September 27th, 2019, 6:19 am

I'm having an issues editing sims & I don't know what is causing it. If a sim already exists & I am trying to edit them in any way it will not update/save the changes. I have a teen sim that has just aged up & I have tried editing her in CAS, playing as her to change her outfits at a dresser & saving her to bin & creating an entirely new sim off that template but it NEVER updates. If I edit in CAS then it lets me press the tick but no changes appear in game, if I go to a dresser it freezes the game when I try to press the tick & if I make a new sim it lets me press the tick but then she turns back into the sim I loaded the template over. Do you have any clue what could cause this?

There are two relatively common causes for that happening. One is "bad" CC and improperly obtained store content. To test this I would suggest trying a new test game on a user game folder that has no CC or store content in it at all just to see if things behave differently. And also, actually the first thing and after making any kinds of content changes, be sure to clear (delete) the five cache files that appear on the top level of your user game folder in Documents if you don't already do this routinely.

The second is that you have mod that is interfering with MasterController or your game is not at the correct patch level for MC to work properly. Does it make any difference if you use EA's version of CAS and its subsets vs. MasterController's? And what is your game's patch level?

MC version - From MC's Edit in CAS or Stylist commands.
EA version - From testingcheatsenabled CAS or Plan Outfit, Change Appearance, Edit Town Create a Household, and other in-game commands.

If you have the MC Integration add-on module in play, then you will get the MC version in-game rather than the EA version so for a convenient way to test the EA version, try removing the module.

You can quickly tell which version of CAS you are in by right-clicking on the "..." button in the lower left corner that usually leads to Game Options, Save, etc. If you are in the MC version, a panel of MC options settngs will appear. If you are in the EA version, nothing will happen.

Thanks for the response. I suspect it may be bad CC, if so do you know of a way to find out which piece of CC is bad without massive amounts of trial & error?

I guess it depends on how we define "massive." First we load a game with no CC at all to see if we can get a working baseline. If all is clear, then we put in half of our CC. If still clear, then add half of what remains but if not then we remove half of what we just added back in. By seesawing back and forth by remaining halves, it shouldn't take very long to pinpoint the culprit(s) even if we have hundreds or tens of thousands of items to test -- certainly this is much more efficient than testing each item individually or in very small batches. This is called the binary sort method, or the "50/50 dance," most of us here have probably been through it to some extent or another.

If we are talking about sims3pack Launcher installed CC, then this becomes a bit more complicated as removing and putting individual items back in is much more cumbersome than with package based CC in the Mods\Packages folder. In that case we have to work with the numbered dbc bundles in DCCache, this is where Launcher installed CC lives. But again first we should see if the problem really is CC related or not.

If a game folder with no CC and the caches cleared still displays the problem, then we move on from there to look for other sources.

So you're certain you have version 1.67 or 1.69 and the latest MC?

Okay, so this is more complicated than I thought. I made sure I downloaded the latest MC & my game version is 1.67

Then I did as you suggested with the CC, halving it replacing it & testing it each time in game.

The one thing is I did it in a different save file & it worked every time, just not in my main save. That seems to be the only time I'm having this issue

If MC is throwing a script error, we really need to be able to see what it says in order to help understand it. Not the on-screen notification of the error, the script log that should show up in your TS3 user game folder in Documents a moment or so later. Script logs are XML files whose names begin with Script_Error (the the name of your PC, a date/time stamp, and some hex codes). You could drag the log's file icon into a response on this post or, if there are several or if that doesn't work, zip them together, upload them to a third party file host, and provide a link so we can take a closer look. There may be a valuable clue in there as to why things are not working as expected but only in your main ongoing game.
