Where do I find the initial installer so that I can download mods

Post by Bowlady1955 » September 29th, 2019, 1:53 am

I can't thank you enough Igiazor, this is going to be invaluable for me. I'm going to have to work on it some more tomorrow though. I've already been up for about 20 hours now and my neighbor and I have an appointment in the morning at 8 am so I need to hit the rack and make some zzzzzzzz's

Thank you again, you have probably saved my computer from frying motherboards and everything else, maybe it can last a bit longer this time before I fry it again.

Cheers,

Oh gosh, i forgot to include Step One in all of the above. Make sure you are well-rested (and have caffeine in front of you, if so inclined) before attempting any of these things, whether they be new to you or you have already seen them a hundred times!

While you are out tomorrow, perhaps consider stopping off to pick up some new frying pans and maybe an electric skillet? It's not really necessary to use your again great sounding computer as a cooking surface or a source of such energy. :)

Not saying this is what burned out your graphics card prior, but it couldn't possibly have been helping.
I'd say there's a good possibility. I have a 1050Ti and running the game uncapped even for a few seconds I can hear it making a high pitched squealing noise. Leaving it like that would definitely mark it's quick demise. This game is pretty dangerous to modern hardware, EA doesn't care though.

I prefer to think that there are folks at EA who DO care, but they aren't the ones empowered to do anything about it. A subtle distinction at best, though.

If you want to see what a crap-storm (pardon my language) looks like though, on a perhaps somewhat smaller scale, wait until Apple releases Catalina, the newest operating system in a few weeks, that will not in any way run TS3 because all support for 32-bit applications is being dropped. I expect EA will continue to sell the game to Mac users as they are today through various channels, Origin for Mac being one way but certainly retail stores still carrying discs would be very difficult to control, and would-be players with up to date Macs will be purchasing a game that they then cannot run unless they have the ability and patience to switch to Windows by way of Bootcamp. Not to mention current players who upgrade, usually there isn't much reason not to with the macOS unless on much older hardware, only to find that their game will just not run.

Just as an update, since I'm really nervous about trying to follow your directions (I'm terrible at it and it takes me a few times before I get it right) and I have a contract with Best Buy Geek Squad, I have an appointment today at 2:00 pm for them to set up my Geforce for Sims 3. I run my game through Origin so I'm assuming i'm running the 1.69 version since I'm not sure how to check that either, and I always run the updates when they tell me they have new ones.

Cheers and thanks again so much for the support ya'll give here

Just out of curiosity, why does my monitor show it's standard RGB when in all actuality it is HDMI or does that make a difference?

Thanks again, this thread has kinda gotten away from the original question although your answers might help quite a few other people who have newer graphic cards, etc and may be having some of the same issues I have been having to deal with, without even realizing it.

Cheers,

Not sure that makes any difference. RGB is a color profile type, other types might be CMYK or Pantone, HDMI would be more likely to describe the connection to it and the port/cable being used. This shouldn't really be an either/or proposition. We could delve into a dxdiag report to see what that says, but if everything works okay and looks nice I'm not sure there would be much benefit to checking into that.
