Populating Traveler Worlds

Post by fluttereyes » September 7th, 2019, 11:59 am

I hope I'm not repeating something here, I did look. I've just installed an old world I made and I've built a base camp. Now what I think will happen is that I need to export that base camp (Hotel) to the library to place when I want to visit the world. The problem is that if I populate the world I'm working on I don't think it is accessed by Traveler when I want my family to visit there. As it's a Scandinavian world I would really like to use a whole load of Scandinavian Sims I made, with Scandinavian names.

Do I have to go through CAW and populate the world then reinstall it or is there a way to access this world for future vacations if I populate it now? Or should I find old saved files and put them in the game, if I do will the world be populated when I visit. Or can I even place all the Sims through edit town when my family visit it the first time? Looking for right way and easiest way to do this.

I hope you understand my issues and my inability to get my head round this, any and all help and advise would be very much appreciated.

go through CAW and populate
That is one way. The other way is having the sims you want to populate the world in the Library bin and when you have your sims travel to the world for the first time place the sims in Edit Town.

Hi there. First of all, there is really no need for a Base Camp unless you really want to have one perhaps to provide other tourists with a central location. When sims visit a world with Traveler in play, if they do not already own a vacation home and there is no Base Camp, upon arrival the mod will ask the player where you would like them to stay (actually if you have Uni installed it will say where would you like to stay this academic term, but that's a glitch in the text being shown as the game knows you aren't really in Uni World) and presents a map with the available residential lots showing for selection. We can regard the cost of lodging/guest house usage to be built into the price of the travel tickets. Of course there has to be at least one unoccupied residential lot for that to work or else your travelers might get stuck on the arrival screen with no way to go forward.

I try to keep one or two otherwise unused empty 10x10s for such situations. If the intent is to stay at a resort or with friends/relatives, a placeholder destination lot where the game "thinks" they are staying still has to be chosen.

But on the real question. If you have a saved game with this world in it all set up and populated the way you like, then you can replicate that world in a different ongoing game that has never "seen" it before by copying the nhd of the populated world into the save of the one being played. Many Traveler mod players reuse destination worlds like that. Upon arrival, the game should load the copied over instance of the destination rather than spawn a new one, provided that the world was ID'ed properly early in its CAW development.

There is no "right" way to do these things, but if you can get the nhd file copying method to work then it almost has to be easier than going through CAW or repopulating the world every time you wish to use it in different games.

Thank you Igazor. The reason for the base camp was my hope that it would be used by other sims as a hotel as well as my own family, I didn't want them in a big hotel on their own. They travel a lot so buying houses is getting tedious. The information about the .nhd is brilliant, despite the fact I just exported all my families from that world and lots that have been modified since I built the world, lol. It is an old world I did play as a world and sometimes I miss the families but I don't want to play them full time. It just means I have them all backed up in case I do need to edit town.
