Mysterious chime?

Post by Kukko69 » August 31st, 2019, 5:05 am

I don't recall hearing this mysterious melody before, or if I have, I don't recognize it. Recently, I started a new game in a new town and since then - quite often - there is this beautiful, yet sad music I associate with something to be happening (like burglar or passing away music) in my active family, yet nothing ever happens. What is this melody?

Hm, hard to find out without a sample ;-)
You could look into Sims Game Options under Music and see if this one youuu hear is listed there.

How could I provide a sample? Explaining it the best I could is all I can do :P And aren't music listed under Game Options soundtracks from the stereo? It's not a song, it's a short melancholic melody that lasts a couple of seconds.

You could record it with a free audio recording program. Audacity is the one I use. Then upload the file it creates to a free file-sharing website and provide the link to the file here so we can listen to it. :-)

I've heard the same music OP is talking about, and never figured out what triggers it.

I know exactly the chime OP is talking about. Its a sad sounding slow track that lasts maybe... 12 seconds or so. Its certainly some sort of bad event occurring, but like the others in this thread I've never figured out what causes it.

I found a youtube video from 2012 that has the chime in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO3CkNdFsYA

Great link. As I read there. Its the melodie for
Break up or divorce between two lovers, partner (death as some assume is wrong, cause this melody is different).

Therefor, because I cannot stand the randomly given traits and such, I adjust these, so the couples match at least much better
- one trait
- the zodiac sign
- and/or Preference Color, music, food

Thank you, denoflions, that's it!!

Break up melody, huh? Do you hear it when your active sims divorce? I don't remember hearing it when my sims break up, although I have to confess, that happens quite rarely. It does match with the fact that I play in a new town where StoryProgression is much faster - therefore partners tend to break up more often. Also, what causes you to hear this chime when nothing happens in your household, does it have some sort of link to my active sims like if it's concerning family members in other households or friends, perhaps? Neighbours?

Gave me the creeps not knowing what it was for (nothing good, obviously)! :-o

I'm guessing the chime plays whenever Story Progression breaks up a couple then... which by default it seems to do quite regularly if the chime's frequency is any indication. It'd be more reasonable if it only played if your story settings would show you the break up text, but I have no idea how hard it would be to squash the track playing.

There are several mods that silence the annoying sounds in the game. Here are some links.

At the Naughty Sims Asylum by Twoftmama (Registration required to see and download these mods)
Shut The Flock Up
Shut The Flock Up Sound Effects

At Mod the Sims
No more annoying sounds by jonha
Shaddap Already - No Annoying Sting Sounds for Pets thru Into the Future by JT`

I have all of the above mods installed and am pretty sure I've never heard the sound that Kukko69 is referring to. I'm not sure which of these mods is actually getting rid of that sound but it must be one of them.

There is another one available by Twoftmama called Shut The Flock Up Stereo Edition which I don't use. I would have linked it as well but it's only possible to add four links to a post here so I left that one out. Don't think it would help with this particular sound anyway. :-)
