More than 8 Sims (split topic)

Post by igazor » August 23rd, 2019, 2:00 pm

Hi there. I have moved your post to its own thread as it was not on-topic for the Retuner discussion. Retuner is one of our mods, the discussion there was specifically about that one. You should be able to start your own threads, if you could please, for new questions that are not related to existing discussions.

There are several NRaas mods that concern themselves with how to create and manage households with Greater Than 8 sims. Which ones you need to use and when depend on what exactly you are trying to do. Many of us of course use all of these mods for all kinds of different reasons already anyway. This FAQ entry should be a good place to start reading. (Edit: I see that Sarah_Sims got here and posted an equivalent link as I was more slowly typing this out...) :)
Which-Mod-FAQ#I-want-to-play-a-househol ... sims-in-it

The short version is that if all you want to do is force more than 8 sims to live in one household, you can do that with a one-time MasterController command. But if you want all households in town to have the ability to overstuff themselves as they progress or you wish to ever move more sims into and out of this one household the in-game ways, still allow them to make babies, or ever intend to switch active households and leave this one behind even temporarily, etc., then the other mods discussed on that entry will also be required along the way.

More than 8 Sims (split topic)

BabyG34 - First of all, I understand being shy and inexperienced with internet forum boards. But there is no need to afraid to ask us for assistance here and doing so is certainly not being a nuisance. We are here to help and really are quite friendly if you give us a chance. And if anyone posts in what appears to us to be the "wrong place," we will just move the post for them. It's not a big deal, really.

I did not realize that the problem is that you are unable to get TS3 mods working in the first place, but thought instead you having trouble identifying exactly which mods were required for your purposes. If you return to this thread, we can help with that too.

If none of your mods or other package based content (if you have others) are working, I would suggest the following:

-- Pull your Mods folder out of your TS3 game folder in Documents entirely, perhaps to the Desktop just for now, and call it Mods.OLD or something like that. We are going to start over.
-- Download the Framework from this page, note the Download button around 1/3 of the way down the page. Save what is being offered also on your Desktop, not in your game folder, as it will arrive as a zip file.
-- Unzip what you have downloaded. Usually that means right-click and Decompress or your could double-click on the zipped download and pull its contents out. It should be a new Mods folder with the two required subfolders, the also required Resource.cfg file, and two small sample mods already in place. Put this Mods folder and its contents into your TS3 user game folder in Documents. Clear (delete) the scriptCache file from the top level of your game folder.
-- Start up the game. You should be greeted with a notification that script mods were detected and there should be no Intro movie as one of the two small test mods suppresses that. Once you confirm that the two test mods are loading as they should, you may choose to keep or delete them as you wish.

Now once this is all confirmed to be working, add one NRaas mod -- let's say MasterController, just the base mod, and again make sure it is not zipped to your Mods\Packages folder. Clear the Scriptcache file again, startup the game, and make sure MC loads up for you. You should again get a script mod notification and now City Hall, lots, and sims will have an NRaas > MasterController menu on them. From there you should be able to add more NRaas or other mods as required to the same place.

That is the correct list of cache files to delete (you can also include the one called socialCache but that one is optional). The important one of the five for purposes of script mods is the scriptCache file, but it doesn't hurt to include the others as part of routine maintenance while the game is not running. This doesn't have to be done before every startup but many of us do so anyway; it does need to be done whenever the contents of Mods\Packages changes in any way. The four (or five) cache files are supposed to regenerate as soon as the game starts up the next time, this is normal.

What is not expected is that your Mods folder is still not being recognized. You are correct in that there is no point in adding NRaas or any other mods to it until this is fixed.

Do not delete your DCCache Folder, this one contains your already installed TS3 store and custom sims3pack content, if you have any. Doing so will remove that content from your game.

May I ask please what the source of your game install is and its patch level? Is this an Origin/Patch 1.69 install, Steam/Patch 1.67, from retail store discs (officially made by EA) and at which patch level, are you on the Mac version of the game, or is it from some other source (which one)? If on Patch 1.69, the Launcher will say so front and center. On the others, if you hover your mouse over the base game icon at the bottom left side of the Launcher, the patch level should show up as a pop-up tooltip and it's always going to be "one point something."

Version 1.69. I just deleted all 5 to see if it would work but it didn't. I also went thro all my stuff to see if their was another copy that sims would be running on but i only found that one. i have 3 extention's to sims 3. Today is not my day, I'm really excited to have 25 sims but how its looking it might not happen bc my computer has different ideas lol. I have never run into this problem until now

I didn't suspect a second game folder here because you reported the cache files are re-spawning in the correct place. If your game were reading from another user game folder, that wouldn't be happening.

Okay, the next step in troubleshooting is to pull your entire TS3 user game folder out of Documents to your Desktop for safekeeping (or rename it). The game will spawn a fresh game folder on its next startup. This one will have no added content of any kind, not from the store, no CC, saved sims, installed worlds (outside of the EPs), or saved games, but those will all be safe in the pulled out folder as this is just for testing. Back out and set up the Framework again on the new game folder. Start a new test game in Sunset Valley or wherever you can. Are the two test mods now being recognized and loading? If so, then again try MasterController, just the base mod.

By the way, once we do get where we are going I have to say that an active household of 25 sims is being a bit optimistic. You will need a very strong computer system to run that household and, depending on the world and how intricate the home lot is or will be, the game engine might not handle a household of that size very well. How would you feel about two households of 12 each?
