Using Object Stats to Delete..

Post by JohnL83 » August 11th, 2019, 10:39 pm

I have a question about a few of the options under this menu. When I click: City Hall, Nraas, MC, Town, Object Stats, I get a list:

Active
Family
Global
Inactive
Inventory
Local
Not Inventory
Sim

I've used the two underlined options many times to delete some of the extra objects that Sims often acquire in their personal inventories (excessive fruit, awards etc) and to remove excess crap from around town. (things like clothing piles, trash, countless pictures and paintings etc) . To do this I use Obj Stats, "Sim" to remove their personal inventory stuff and for their lots I use "Not Inventory"
But what I'm unsure about are the other options?
If I want to get rid of all the stuff that gets stashed in Sim's family inventories is that the "family" option or "Inventory" option? Or is "Inventory" everything they have in their fridges and bookshelves? And what are the rest? I've no idea what "Active" would do or "Global" and I'm too leery to try them for fear of messing something up.

There is overlap among the categories, they are not mutually exclusive. Inventory means anything that is in any kind of inventory container -- so that includes sims, families, refrigerators, workbenches, storage chests, bookshelves, etc. Sim means anything in sims' personal inventories, so these would be included in Inventory. How complete the list presented is depends on whether the MC command is invoked on City Hall/an in-game computer at the Town level or, for example, a particular lot or the world lot (like on a sidewalk or road, that which is not on any other lot). If you invoke it with Inventory on a particular residential lot, then you will only see items in inventory containers that are currently within that lot.

Local means everything in the world being played. I don't think we're sure what Global means, that one is always worth experimenting with though.

The formal definitions for reference are here.

Thank you Igazor, I really don't know how I missed that part in the Interactions description. It's too bad one cant just get the stuff in family inventory alone from their refrigerator or bookcase. I play various houses and when I do a reset everything often the NA sims personal inventories get stashed into their family inventory. I don't want to remove all the stuff in their bookcases or refrigerators, but I do want to rid their fam inv of things. I hate to wait and do it each time I play an individual family, but I suppose that's what I am left with.

The problem for some of us with that approach would be that the other households paid for (or created, collected, grew, kleptoed, etc.) those items. I wouldn't want to flush them out, but when examining household by household, I can see which items I might want them to sell or shift back to personal inventory. While that's still a household by household thing and can be quite tedious, this can be done with MC without each household being made active.

For example to examine and sell of excess family inventory items, NRaas > MC > Household > Sell Item. If we were to flush, then the household wouldn't get reimbursed for those five extra laptops and twelve baby strollers or whatever that they did pay for but never really needed. And maybe they still really do need a couple of each.
